About me:
B.Ed and certified K-8 for two provinces in Canada
15 years teaching EFL in Taiwan, mostly at private language schools, mostly with kids and teens
10 years managing private language schools and providing management consultation services
no recognized TEFL certificate
What kind of teaching job could I theoretically get? I've got a lot of teaching/curriculum design/management experience, but no idea how or if this can be used in Cambodia. I don't really need a full time job, but I hope that I can secure something better than someone without any experience. I'm moving to PP because my wife is slated to be transferred to the Cambodian office of her company, and after 15 years in Taiwan, it really feels like time for a change.
As TEFL certificates are not widely used in Taiwan, there was never any need for me to have one. Is this going to be a problem?
Thanks for any and all advice.
Need advice on what kind of teaching jobs I could go for

Why cross ACE off? if anything he is fully qualified to work there and other international schools. Aim high.
They will scan-read his lil cv for "CELTA" and send him a nice rejection email informing him NEEDS one...Bitteeinbit wrote:Why cross ACE off? if anything he is fully qualified to work there and other international schools. Aim high.
Odd, I don't think of ACE as aiming high. Maybe because I'm not Australian. You should have no problems finding a job. Many places might even consider firing someone just to have someone with that much experience. You just need to decide what kind of teaching you want to do. You get paid a lot more at "true" international schools, but I wouldn't want to teach to a bunch of rich white kids who think they are better than you.

To be honest, I don't even know which are the "top schools". I always forget the name of one (Westbridge, or... damn always slips my mind) and the other is Ace. I know there are maybe 3-4 in total which are "top" schools. I honestly think he should apply to those. Would Ace really put that much emphasis on a CELTA? The guy has a Bachelors in Education for Christ's sake. That's 4-5 years of EDUCATION vs a one month certificate. He's certified to teach in Canada and has a ton of experience. I'm pretty sure a B.Ed trumps a CELTA any day of the week.

I think you mean Northbridge. You can't really compare International schools like Northbridge or ISPP with ACE, which is basically just a good English language training center.Bitteeinbit wrote:To be honest, I don't even know which are the "top schools". Yeeeeah, Northbridge! Haha, "Westbridge". I knew "bridge" was in there somewhere. yeah and of course ISPP. Wasn't sure where ACE belonged in there, but they have a good reputation. I just thought they were an actual school vs English-focused school. Either way if i were the OP, I would apply at Northbridge, ISPP and maybe ACE. Not sure what salaries are like since most people won't divulge how much they make, but I think NB and ISPP pay out around 2000-2500$/month? Ace perhaps 1500$/month? This is just a guess based on previous recollections and my gut instinct. I'm not well informed though. Either way he shouldn't be giving out CVs for 9$/hour jobs.
SOL on both counts, there.
By the way, I did inquire at ACE last year (before the second one was born, we were supposed to move there), and yep, I got the standard reply that because I didn't have a TEFL certificate, they wouldn't hire me.

I have also heard that the application process at ACE is, how shall we say, Lawrence Bryce-friendly.
Guy I knew worked for them up near Preah Vihear, didn't have a degree/TEFL. Guess it depends on variety of 'factors'.
