The worst school administrators
Have to be Asian women.
Sorry, but in SE Asia, that's my experience.
Comments, anyone?

Absolutely spot on from my experience, though the gender doesn't really matter. Khmer administrators are absolutely hopeless. They just don't understand the concept of long-lasting quality - only short-term profits. I'm sure we all know a song about that, Zippy.
Don't grow up - it's a trick!

I think that Asian women are sometimes promoted, by Asian men, based on performance. But it's for performance outside the workplace.
I thought the minimum requirement was a 1st class B.Ed with excellent hands on experience.prahocalypse now wrote:I think that Asian women are sometimes promoted, by Asian men, based on performance. But it's for performance outside the workplace.

Vlad, in what way are Asian women worse administrators than men or non-Asian women?

My current chief administrator is a woman and she's pretty shit at her job, I must say. But what you have to remember is that they are all bad and even the name of their job is misspelt. It should be administraitor...

Joon, this is based on my experiences in Asia. You know that I oppose racism. It doesn't mean every Asian female supervisor is nasty, I'm aware of that. This is not racism, this is a valid question based on my experience in Cambodia. I have encountered one crappy English woman as well who was forced out of a very well-known school, but because of the location, the majority of female supervisors I have met are Asian women.Joon wrote:Vlad, in what way are Asian women worse administrators than men or non-Asian women?
The answer may be that owners of schools feel compelled to offer jobs to family, and their (often unsuitable) female relatives would not consider working under a foreigner or anyone else, so they get put at the top.In that case, the owners should bear some responsibility.
I worked at a school where a female supervisor threatened a teacher with mention of an unregistered firearm.
I just feel that generally speaking (99% in my experience), they are not even open to constructive suggestions, let alone criticism, and that perhaps due to their idea of status, they feel they have to assert themselves all the time.
I met a filipina woman Marisa who was an exception, and a Khmer/Burmese woman who ran a kindergarten, only good ones out of the many I have heard of or met.
Obviously the male sector also has its blunderkids, but they seem to be in a minority in comparison.

My question was not taking a dig at supposed racism, but I was truly wondering what are the traits, shortcomings or weaknesses of Asian women that made them worst school administrators. You mentioned some of them, that hint more at their complete lack of competence or knowledge in the field of education and school management.
Though you did say that according to your experience the worst school administrators "have to be Asian women" but by your own admission you have encountered more Asian female supervisors in your line of work, which from an analytical point of view would skew the conclusion that Asian female school administrators are the worst.
Purely based on your clarification, it seems that the issue is not so much their gender and ethnicity but essentially their utter lack of competence. I think it's very unfortunate and outright shameful that schools owners would put nepotism above competence and business integrity.

This is not only south east Asia , this is Cambodia. Nepotism is part of the game, be it in business or in government at absolutely all levels.I think it's very unfortunate and outright shameful that schools owners would put nepotism above competence and business integrity.
Incidentally that is why moderately well run businesses established by foreigners , or professional foreigners in many fields , are doing quite well. Not only on their own merits, but because local competition is so clueless.

Incompetent and pleasant I can handle.Joon wrote:Purely based on your clarification, it seems that the issue is not so much their gender and ethnicity but essentially their utter lack of competence.
Dishonesty, aggression, autocracy, bad manners and death threats...cannot.
Do yourself a favour, research reviews of schools in Vietnam or Thailand for example, and see what comes up.

Joon knows enough about local politics to be able to comment well on over a decade's-worth of national government elections - yet doesn't know that
Nepotism is part of the game, be it in business or in government at absolutely all levels.
which is very easily observable in practically all arenas, here.

So they're a bit like male Khmer school administrators?vladimir wrote:[I just feel that generally speaking (99% in my experience), they are not even open to constructive suggestions, let alone criticism, and that perhaps due to their idea of status, they feel they have to assert themselves all the time.
