Lower wages for teachers on the horizon?
Lower wages for teachers on the horizon?
With Phnom Penh schools closed again, and the possibility for again, and again, will wages fall as school owners worry about balancing the books?
Coming off a low base i wouldnt have thought theres any wiggle room for lowering the hourly rate but certainly job losses are a probability.
employers will wait and see if the pfizer vaccine is approved and in the meantime the rumor of it being approved should mitigate the worst risks.

Do you live here Pencil? In my experience the less well educated Khmer mostly listen to Hun Sen and not follow global news much. So they not hear / care about the vaccin. Added to that is the Facebook fear mongering and fake news so I am afraid they are more panicked than relieved.
Since yesterday we had a large drop in customers again (hospitality) and employees get phonecalls from family to return home. Regarding teacher salaries I have no first hand experience but some claim online classes would result in a certain % of salaryloss for some or a bigger workload.

The thread title is about lower wages and my reply was on topic.

Everyones mind is on a vaccine to get us back to where we were before the virus took it away.

Many schools lowered the salaries of teachers, the drop ranged from 40 per cent to 60 per cent, when the schools closed down last time. Some are either starting to, or considering, doing it again, there are a number of schools which will not do so, this academic year at least, but next? Maybe.
South Africans will be glad to take what they are offered.
At least they get some pay, pannasastra appear to have stopped paying anything at all.
Can everyone share how much the salary cuts are this time? 30% here
Hi Virak,
I take it you were not on an hourly wage, but rather a monthly salary? And your school cut all teacher salaries by 30%. Correct?

It appears so, no pay for 2 months, no explanation or communication about when teachers will get paid and a new term starting this week.

That's correct.
Whoa, I don't understand how Pannasastra can just not pay.

Pannasastra the not caring not sharing employer. Teachers who need money supposedly have to go and beg someone in the pay office for a small advance on the non existent salary. And not a whisper from the management about the situation.
It would be interesting to hear how much schools are reducing salaries this time around.
