Hi all,
New member with a question here, and your input very much appreciated.
I won't go into the details of my background, but have been working in academic administration for a few years, here in PP. I've been browsing around for jobs in Education and came across an ad @bongthom. The position is offered by the NTC group and it is for Chief Academic Officer, I am assuming for one of their schools. I looked up the NTC group and saw they have a couple of reputable schools as part of their academic "community", however no reviews or other information seem to exist online.
One of the questions I have is what exactly an "educational community" is. Is it like an agency for schools? What's their degree of involvement in academic operations of their partner schools? I would really appreciate any information, experiences, insights, before I venture to apply.
Cheers.
NTC Group

It only takes a few seconds of searching.
They keep changing their name, the latest fancy-sounding abbreviation being NTC.
I remember when it was Newton Thilay and it was a low-quality place then.
You only have to read the rubbish on their website to see why:

"I don't care what the people are thinking, i ain't drunk i'm just drinking"
A good Khmer friend is a principle of one of the Sovanaphum schools. I respect him and he seems to respect his school system. While he would not claim it to be one of the top schools in the country academically, and even that is not such a high bar, he believes they are reasonably well run and offer good value for the tuition fees.
I think many of the schools that have multiple branches in Cambodia are operated as franchises. In theory this means they have some basic minimum standards to uphold, but allow some certain amount of flexibility in both management and educational 'product'. Further, because of pandemic caused financial stress, some individual franchisees are cutting pay, but not others. I think you would need to research each branch individually to learn their economic health and trustworthiness.
Newton Thilay Group, I think, is wholly owned by the Thilay family. School management get quite a lot of support, but not a great deal of freedom. The family are not in Cambodia's true uber wealthy set, but I believe they are sufficiently rich to be selectively buying land through this downturn. Probably some staff have been laid off, but I think they have communicated clearly with staff.
You might not be proud to name them as your employer, but I don't think they will treat you badly. In the current climate, that is something.
