Shanae Edwards or Shanae Brooke, who taught at Dadi-Prestige International Academy in Phnom Pehn, was found dead in Tbilisi, Georgia.
She'd been hiking when she was attacked, and she called a friend who heard her say "please let me go ... just let me go".

I'm in Tbilisi at the moment, the ex-pats organized a search for her on Saturday morning and they found her body in the afternoon. Judging by the response on the FB groups there have been numerous incidents of women being targeted whilst hiking and jogging. Once you get out of the city the surrounds are pretty medieval. The police here don't fuck about so lets hope they catch him.

I didn’t know her but wanted to acknowledge her passing in such a horrific way. How awful, too, for the person on the other end of the phone.

From scumbags like this one through to those that the CPU team here have to deal with here abusing & murdering kids, it really makes the blood boil as a decent upstanding bloke in society. (by my own judgement! )
How do we as "good guys" pick out these little weasels ahead of tragedy? We need to protect our women & kids from these monsters. Is there more society can do to identify potential threats beforehand? Sadly there are still so many "Bob next door seemed like a normal bloke - turns out he was a serial killer" stories.
I don't have the answers sorry, just venting as a husband and father. It is increasingly hard to remain silent.
RIP.

There is a lot of bad shit out there and I believe solidarity in numbers can help protect yourself against it.

Unfortunately, imho, the best way of prevention is education to daughters, friends, and even wives on how to be and stay safe. It's easy for women to feel comfortable, confident, and grow complacent. After years of not having any issues, it's understandable for women to feel safe enough to do certain things on their own (go to club, take a tuktuk home late at night drunk, go hiking in a park in Tbilisi), but all it takes is once. Ten years of doing the same thing and not having a problem is nice, but that one time....Spigzy wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 3:48 pmFrom scumbags like this one through to those that the CPU team here have to deal with here abusing & murdering kids, it really makes the blood boil as a decent upstanding bloke in society. This can apply to men as well, of course, but dangers to men and the consequences are quite different. If I was drunk and got into a tuktuk, the same level of danger of getting hit by a car exists. I might even have the danger of ending up somewhere random and getting mugged. But I'm pretty confident I don't have the threat of rape.
A staff of mine was in a bad accident a few weeks ago, and blacked out and didn't know what happened. When we were worried if she were raped, another Khmer girl said "she couldn't have been, they would have just killed her after". (Luckily, as terrible as it is, it was "just" a moto accident.) But still, I think it was a wakeup call that going home late at night alone was a dangerous thing to do, as something else could have happened.
Even though it happened far from here, there is reason to be cautious these days. The other day I was almost run over by an embassy vehicle speeding madly down a small street as I walked peacefully along it. As the father of a daughter, I discovered in myself new facets of my desires for brutality if anyone tried to hurt her.
