I've been unlucky enough to stay in 2 different hospitals in Cambodia in the 2 and a half years I've been here.

The first one was at Calmette with typhoid. I would never stay again. It was terrible.

The second was Royal Rattanak Hospital in Toul Kork. I had appendicitis. It was very good, but a lot more expensive! I paid nearly $1000 for a 4 day stay and was impressed.

If you have proper insurance, do not go to Rattanak. They will tell your insurance company that there is no need to be evacuated, as they have the necessary facilities (which they do not have in case surgery is required).

Excellent list this.
Aurore for x rays, blood tests, all the simple stuff.
Gavin scott for skin problems,STD and HIV advice-typically good GP.
Rattanak for scans and x rays for serious problems.
Dutch physios in st 456 are excellent.Edwina is the best physio I have ever been to.

I am an older ex-veteran who is suffering from a potentially fatal kidney disease. I am low on funds and have a monthly income of $700 on which I support my wife and two kids. Can anyone offer me any information on the following..

Veterans Administration representative for overseas vets. Or else anyone who is associated with the VFW who might be able to help me. I have been to the American Embassy and they are useless. They told me to google it and apply on-line. I have already done that but the bureaucratic procedure is so slow that I could easily die before I either get turned down or approval. The VA in the Phillipines only handles Philipino vets.
I haven't the necessary funds to go to Thailand or Singapore, nor do I want to consult a Cambodian doctor without recommendations from ex-pats who have needed surgery. I went o a Cambodian hospital for an ultrasound scan which I got, but they were entirely incapable of interpreting the results. Please note that this a pleas for information, NOT money.

Sok Sen International Hospital has a Russian, who seems to have a good reputation. I believe it costs $30 for the first consultation and $15 for a follow up. Prices were on their website last time I looked.[/quote]

I saw him a few weeks ago when I needed some minor surgery.
He wanted to operate on me using a scalpel and no anesthesia.
I decided to wait until I was in BKK, and had the surgery done by a Thai doctor that
used a laser and local anesthesia.

The Russian doctor seems like a nice guy, but his methods seem very antiquated.

New service in Sihanoukville! If you want to avoid local medical facilities in case of sickeness or injury and rather be treated and adviced by western-trained emergency nurse, call me anytime on +855 977 570 423 and I will get to you asap!

Great list thanks everyone, I don't want to fill it with questions so maybe a mod can delete this if/when it get's answered, and post the answer only.

Say you get run over, and need to call an ambulance. It seems like Rattanak would be best for immediate emergency services - but then if you need surgery according to the above post, they won't do much to get you out of the country. So in that case SOS would be better.

What's a person to do? Go to Rattanak then check your ass out for SOS once stabilized (of course in reality, you'd probably need a friend to help you out here)?

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! Went to see DR JEAN TERRASSE. I went in for an appointment with alot of concern of my health with chest pain, difficulty breathing, rapid heart rate, high fever and severe stomach pain. I don't think you have to be a doctor to know that these symptoms should be treated seriously. That is exactly what I didn't receive. I got a ignorant, arrogant Doctor Terrasse that cut me off when I tried to speak, his patience is low and he has no understanding of someone being a little nervous about my health condition at that present moment.

He sent me out with laxatives, nasal spray and antibiotics as my prescription. Nasal spray? Did I say anything about wanting to clean my nose? I had not had the appropriate tests to be given antibiotics either... Two hours later I end up in the emergency room at a local hospital. Just shows that when you are in a country like Cambodia and you think going to a "international standards" hospital you are not always getting the best treatment. My bill was over $100 for about 10 minutes of his time. If Dr Terrasse was not just in it for the money and was a good doctor, I would not have ended up in hospital. I found out what the problem was eventually, and my condition was completely preventable if treated properly.

Two days later out of curiosity I went back to the Naga Clinic to get the results that Dr Terrasse had taken on the first visit. I felt alot better but still had similar symptoms just not as bad a 2 days prior. I told him I ended up in hospital a few hours after the initial appointment I had with him, he ignored what I said, gave me my blood test results and with a smile said "but your not sick".... Worst doctor I have ever been to. You have been warned....

It would be helpful if postings were categorized based on the city. It would also be helpful to separate medical and dental. I'm probably asking too much.

Probably.

Just assume that all postings refer to Phnom Penh unless otherwise stated.
