A few numbers are missing:
kaot (កោដិ) for 10 millions
And numerals of sanskrit origin up to ten are still in use in some expressions:
aek = one
to = two
trey = three
(these are used for example to name the ranks of the officers in the armed forces, like "varaseney trei" which is a major; antoher example: "trey meas" is a trimester)
chato = four (like "chato muk" = four faces : the confluence of bassak, tonle sap, higher Mekong and lower Mekong rivers in front the royal palace)
banhcha = five
chha = six (like "chha meas" = a semester)
sabd = seven (like sabda = the seven-days week)
attha = eight
nop = nine
samrithi = ten

I think it would be useful to update this with some numbers that you'll actually hear at the market, including:
5 - pam
6 - bom muey
7 - (mm)'ball
8 - (mm)'bei
9 - (mm)'buon
and :
100 is ma-roy
but
200 is pi-hoiy
300 is bei-hoiy
And lastly, the ending in the numbers, such as:
4500 - buon poen pam (and then leaving out the final classifier, so in this case you don't need to say hundred)

An internal R following a initial consonant is always softened to a AY in street Khmer.
Thus Pram changed to PAYam. Brap to BAYap, etc.
Much like the final R in words in New England English is changed to an open A vowel. Car becomes Caaah, park becomes paahk, etc..

My level isn't good enough to pick apart regional accents yet, and they can only understand me half the time as is. However, I did enjoy that in SBR they actually seemed to appreciate me speaking Khmer, as it doesn't seem as impressive to them in PP. I certainly got a hell of a laugh out of a few girls as we walked by and they started to talk about my wife's dress, how it as beautiful and such, and I responded in Khmer that "she's very beautiful as well." They weren't expecting that!Playboy wrote:Did you notice in Siam bloody Reap that they all have terrible, guttural, accents up there ?
