Whilst eating some good fried chicken in BB's at city mall , I noticed they had a sign up advertising free WiFi , they have a large dining area upstairs where you could sit in comfort and use your computer .

Plus, if you decide to change providers, it's unlikely that an Aight-ma-dom is going to show up on your doorstep demanding bribes in exchange for staying out of jail.LoneStar wrote:I doubled my 512k connection with EZCOM to one meg a few weeks ago and have now added fiber optic.
What a difference. For the first time in Cambodia I can seamlessly stream video. The difference between using fiber optic or a shitty telephone line is huge.

FCC has a 12Mbps connection, but their food and drinks are just unbelievably priced. (Spirits $5each!).
I grab their password then sit at the restaurant at the opposite corner juicing their wi-fi connection (strength is 3 to 4 bars out of 5).
Still, most places cap the maximum DL for individual users.
FCC, even with a 12Mbps connection, the ACTUAL download speed never goes abovve 100kbps. Like my hotel... they have a 6Mbps connection, but they cap each user to have a maximum of 20Kbps to limit the amount they can download in a short period of time - tight ass pricks. I beat on the owner so he took my laptops IP address and upped my download cap on his computer... changed me to 1Mbps for 1 day only.. just enough to get me the taste of what a real connection should have been like.
Most placces Ive been to on the riverside lately, despite their connection, seem to be able to download between 25 to 50 Kbps.. not really fast enough for movies.
Whenever Im in at Pickled Parrot having a few drinks the internet speed seems good.. but Ive never been there for downloading, so I dont know about the real speed.
Ive got sick of relying on other people's "free" shite. Last week I went into Mobitel and took them up on their USB modem internet. There are 3 plans - I took the $50 "unlimited" plan. Its total false advertising because it isnt unlimited... its capped at 20GB download per month.
They rate the speed at 7Mbps download and 1 point something Mbps upload. The bullshit thing though... they say that they have two USB modems available... one allows 7Mbps and the other model allows 3.6Mbps. They claim that the better modem is "out of stock" and they dont know when it will be back in stock. This is bullshit of course and is just their way of further regulating the previously advertised speed of their service. I think since they launched it theyve discovered they cant suppport 7Mbps download per user, so they changed the modems they supply to reduce that.
Id be very interested in learing if I can take out the SIM they supplied me with and put it in a non-Cellcard USB modem with better bandwidth ability to get the full 7Mbps... anyone?
Anyway.. Ive no complaints about the service. Some places Ive only been getting 200 to 400Kbps download, but other places (in my hotel for example), Ive been getting the full 3.6Mbps (full capacity ofthe USB modem they supplied). Awesome for downloading movies off Pirate Bay - shame about the 20GB limit.

Dr. Seuss, I don't mean this disrespectfully..........but would it not be easier to just buy the DVD for a buck or two?
I don't put a min. charge for people to use my internet at the Lone Star, but I have noticed that serial downloaders are often serieal cheapskates. Not referring to you.......but there does seem to be a correlation.
I just turn them off. They can grind down the Bandwidth for everyone else at the bar.

I wish more places knew how to cap downloads for individual users. It really irritates me to go to a restaurant or check into a hotel that advertises free Internet, only to be unable to browse the Internet or sometimes even check email, because someone running a bittorrent client or download accelerator has opened 1000 connections and is sucking up all the bandwidth for the entire place. I use bittorrent myself--I have it running 24 hrs a day on my home connection--but on the rare occasions when I use it on a shared connection, I cap the download and upload speeds and limit the number of connections myself.

Tom Yum Kung restaurant (thai food, khmer food and noodles) at #10, St 278 has just finished installing a 1 meg connection. Of course free of charge and open (no pw needed).
I will see about filesharing. If it does happen a lot and impact customers I'll install a proxy and filter it out.
Airconditioning: Upstairs
Happy Hour: daily 16:30 - 18:30
Mekhong (Thai Whiskey), Red Label, Smirnoff, $1 per shot (30ml)
Beer by bottle: Angkor or Lao Big $1.75, Tiger or Heineken Small $1.75
