because they don't make Anchor in the bottle. sorry.vladimir wrote:bfsc, I was talking more about the cans and bottles, why would someone not stock bottles/cans of Anchor? Is it only expats that drink it?
and as far as price goes..... 2000 riel for a can in the country is fine.
my sangkat my beer.
and as far as marketing goes.... some one has got to do a tall boy can!
it would blow up on the Khmer market.
trust me...
i used to sell beer for a living.
lot's and lot's of beer.
it's not just about what's on tap.
it's about giving your customer informed options about what they can drink.
after that... it sells itself.
after all....
it's beer.
Why, oh why, didn't I take the Blue pill?

A Cambodia Beer can should not cost more than 50 cents. Some minimarts are using the "ooh it's new, gotta try it" effect to charge more, hoping that people will think it's some kind of premium beer like Kingdom and fall into the trap.

The only thing that make Kingdom "premium" is the price tag.Khmerized wrote: ... people will think it's some kind of premium beer like Kingdom ...

Taxi for Kingdom!barforsalecambodia wrote:Well from a quality perspective, cans also go "off" after a while (not sure that Khmer shop owners are thinking about that). That's why we got rid of the draft, because the volume of orders was not enough to keep the beer fresh. Perhaps the shop owners are thinking of inventory space? The cans of Anchor that are selling really slowly are taking up space from faster moving goods? This is what I hear about Kingdom. People are trying to clear their stock so that they can stock something that is faster moving.vladimir wrote: why would someone not stock bottles/cans of Anchor?

Hmmm. His choice was always mystifying given he had no experience running a successful business, let alone a successful brewery. Good mates with the Leopard folks who have sunk a fair amount of money into Kingdom. Goes to show, know what you know, who you know...

I dropped by Lanzi's yesterday and they were using a forlorn crate of Kingdom as a doorstop (with a sticker on the side showing a reduced price).

Wouldn't have taken a genius to recognize that this one wasn't going to work. Most amusingly, the guy in charge (or who was in charge depending on the verification of recent rumors/news) doesn't actually drink beer!
People are talking as if Kingdom is closing down already but as far as I can see they are still active in the market with the new launch of the canned beer, ads in the newspapers etc.
So are these just rumors or has something actually happened?
Kingdom have made plenty of mistakes but also some good things have happened (nice branding, premium look, tasty dark beer). They also have financial backing so should be able to continue unless something has changed?

You make some fair points. At this point there is a lot of speculation/rumours out there. Nothing has been confirmed yet. However, I sense that they are down to their last throw of the dice. I wouldn't be too sure of their financial backing as Leopard have sunk a bunch of money (two rounds so far) into the brand and I don't think they've had much or anything back. I'd be surprised if they'd put more into it particularly as they are focusing on other types of investments now.rob77 wrote:People are talking as if Kingdom is closing down already but as far as I can see they are still active in the market with the new launch of the canned beer, ads in the newspapers etc.
