How popular is UFC style MMA in Cambodia?

I'm not really that interested in seeing GSP-Silva. Silva's already fought the big wrestler in Sonnen. This would be the same thing.
GSP would have to take him down and hump him for 5 rounds. Which would be boring.
I'd much rather see Silva go up against someone who can compete with him in the striking.

Agreed, 5 rounds of gayness on the ground is not my idea of an exciting fight. This one was good but usually GSP fights send me to sleep.Khmeria wrote:I'm not really that interested in seeing GSP-Silva. Silva's already fought the big wrestler in Sonnen. This would be the same thing.

What other serious options does Silva have?
Hendricks has a left hand and then some...Boom!!

basically I just want to see Silva stand up with some of the best strikers
Diaz is a good fight against anyone. He should get another shot at Condit when the swelling has gone down and the cuts are heeled.
Damn ... that didn't take long!Jacked Camry wrote:As in "go to sleep". Man Hendricks has wicked power in that left. Throws everything with a lot of intent.Ron wrote:Thanks for the link. Go Hitman!

Who is that? Jones would definitely be interesting, but he'd also fight smart and ground him or clinch and use his Greco I would think. Spider is the greatest striker in MMA by far. That's why nobody will strike with him except guys who are just getting paid to be knocked out on live TV and know it.Khmeria wrote:I'm not really that interested in seeing GSP-Silva. I think a GSP-Silva fight would be great because it would FORCE Silva out of his comfort zone and then we can see what he's made of, just like Sonnen did. There wasn't enough drama in that for you? And there would be drama with GSP, you still have to get to Spider and survive the damage in order to ground him.

Diaz wouldn't last one round with Silva. I wonder whether he'd last one minute. Diaz' wars have been fantastic to watch, but they happen because he can weather the damage he gets from the other guys and eventually overwhelms them with his volume striking. Hard to weather a much bigger Silva who's striking is a quantum level beyond anyone he's ever faced.Khmeria wrote:I'd watch Silva fight Nick Diaz. diaz has great boxing so that could be interesting

It's MMA - you should watch K-1 instead. Yes, when it's grappling and nobody is actually trying to do something it is boring, but when they are, it's not. As you note, Condit-GSP was a great fight. Why wouldn't GSP-Spider be the same? Spider is dangerous with his jiu-jitsu from the back, and GSP would have to get close enough to take him down which puts him very much in the danger zone.angsta wrote: Agreed, 5 rounds of gayness on the ground is not my idea of an exciting fight. Jones's striking is equally creative and great. But yes he'd probably wrestle and clinch him and make it boring because he has too much of an advantage there.Jacked Camry wrote:Who is that? Watching a wrestler try to hump and hold a non-wrestler isn't entertaining. It's the worst part of MMA and it's stifling the sport from becoming bigger.I think a GSP-Silva fight would be great because it would FORCE Silva out of his comfort zone and then we can see what he's made of, just like Sonnen did. The best fights are when two guys go to war on each other and have an opportunity to showcase their skills. That can't happen when one guy just holds the other guy against the mat.
GSP-Silva would be a letdown.

Let's hope we have a chance to find out.Khmeria wrote:GSP-Silva would be a letdown.
Silva is not going to fight Jones because he knows he'd be at a huge disadvantage and would likely lose. Spider doesn't have the sort of body to put on a lot of weight and Jones' advantages in grappling are just too much. If they were to fight Muay Thai that would be very interesting because I've never really seen anyone who has the kind of pinpoint accuracy and power that Silva does or the creativity in their striking that Jones does.

GSP has said he can't and won't go up a weight class so I don't see either of these fights happening. Loud noises from Dana White me thinks.
If you want to watch Muay Thai JC then Saturday and Sunday afternoons on Channel 7 is your best bet, should be able to get a link somewhere for a stream??

Fight starts and Hughes is stalking GSP (who is backing up). GSP gets the first take down and Hughes is on his back for all of 5 seconds. Back up and GSP lands a decent side kick. From then on it's all Hughes. He shoots and takes GSP down, mostly due to Hughes' immense strength for his size. Bit of ground and pound but not much damage done. GSP is able to get back up but finds himself on his back again 20 or 30 seconds later. Bit of ground and pound with some meaningful shots by Hughes. Amid the pounding Hughes pulls an arm bar. It's all over in the first round. Not sure how this equates to "doing very well".Jacked Camry wrote:GSP was doing very well against Hughes when he got caught in an armbar and tapped with a second to go in the round. He got caught by Serra on a one-punch knockout. Nobody has really had much success against him.Slippery Slope wrote:I'm hoping for GSP V Silva at a catch-weight. GSP turned into super-man after getting beat up by Hughes all those years ago. He came back stronger, faster and far more technical. He looked great today but I'm not sure how he'll do against The Spider. Silva is just so damn fast and powerful and with shocking accuracy. Should be a great matchup.
Anyway, when GSP EXPLODED in the rematch it was a completely different person. He was simply awesome in every fight from that day on. Hughes was a (mostly) 1-dimensional fighter. No stand-up. His style (that he was famous for) was shoot - ground - pound - optional submission (which is exactly what he did to GSP).
The Serra punch was both lucky for Serra and disapointing for most people who wanted to see a good match-up. Not that Serra is/was any real contest for the GSP of today.
Agree with what others say: if you want to watch stand-up, watch K1 or boxing. MMA is designed to allow fighters form all discplines to mix it up. Jui-Jitsu is a very effective art against any other art in the world. Anyone who's seen UFC 1/2 will know exactly what I mean. But, even so, most decent and effective Jui-Jitsu practitioners of today will have some stand-up capabilities.
