New Book- Move to Cambodia
New Book- Move to Cambodia
I've come across a book from Lina Goldberg titled "Move to Cambodia" that was released earlier this month. (October, 2012) It seems to have a lot of really wonderful information.
Broken down in to three parts, and the chapters include: "Cambodian courtesy, Face, Currency, Climate, Visas, International movers, Budgeting your move, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Battambang, (etc), Finding an apartment, What to do when you first arrive, Mail, Advice for Women", and even "Taxes". (There are a lot more chapters, but that's enough of a list for now.)
I wanted to share this information for anyone that is planning a move, is new to the country and feeling a bit out of place, or simply would like to learn more about the country and culture as a whole.
You can purchase it off Amazon, Barnes and Noble, (any major bookstore's website, for that matter) and it's even available on Kindle, Kobo, and other eReaders.
Click on the picture of the cover, and you can read a preview.
I haven't finished reading it yet, but I'm enjoying myself so far.
I'm new to this, so I don't have much to compare it to, but I have learned a lot within a few chapters that seem to hold truth as I continue to do my research.
Maybe some of the old dogs on here will check it out, and give an input on what they think of the material, as well.
Happy Reading!

That's wonderful. Hopefully the Kingdom of Wonder will have the capacity to absorb the next 500,000 economic refugees the world throws at it.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Hopefully those "500,000 economic refugees" read this book, educate themselves, and preserve and respect the Kingdom for what it is.Lucky Lucan wrote:That's wonderful. Hopefully the Kingdom of Wonder will have the capacity to absorb the next 500,000 economic refugees the world throws at it.
Based on the things I have read in this forum, it seems that reading this book might do some of the expats some good.
Eventually, the truth comes out.

It sounds like a wonderful publication,I dont how we survived without it all this time.
I hope it has a chapter on bars and brothels and taxi girls. This is the sort of info we really need desperately.

I just downloaded it on my Kindle.... Good updated looking info to have on hand.
I'll make my friends back home read it before I answer their typical questions that they ALL have about living here.

From her website Why move to Cambodia?:
Move to Cambodia: A guide to living and working in the Kingdom of Blank-Eyed Dullards
From her blog linagoldberg.com:The locals are friendly. Serial expats know that in many countries settling in can be difficult due to difficult locals. Cambodians can be difficult, of course, but they’re always friendly. If Thailand is known as the “land of smiles,” Cambodia could be called the land of genuine smiles. Even small interactions like bargaining with a tuk tuk driver usually involve smiles and laughter.
Bayon is the best grocery for dry goods and pantry supplies...
Their staff also leaves a lot to be desired, even within a field that blank-eyed dullards tend to typically excel in. While holding a pen and notebook (and shopping), I was tailed by two employees for a while until one finally worked up the courage to tell me that “no writing” is allowed in their store.

I'm guessing that the book is targeted to those who aren't yet living here. Just a hunch.ken svay wrote:It sounds like a wonderful publication,I dont how we survived without it all this time.

Lina Goldberg proves how yet again, everything is for sale on amazon.com
I'm pretty sure even GW could write a book for them...well, dictate it, anyway.

Thanks for the great review, CamCam. I could not have written this book without the help of many members of this forum who generously offered me advice, interviews and proofreading in their areas of expertise to make sure that I had my facts straight. Unsurprisingly, SunSan was one of those who helped. I won't name everyone else in case you don't want to be identified as being accommodating, but be assured that your help was very much appreciated.
If anyone has any additional feedback, suggestions or semantic arguments, please feel free to talk to me in person about it at Garage this evening.

Forget about the book, I saw the film when it was released 10 years ago. That's why I'm living here.
I am just a nobody
But one day I will be a somebody really important
And you all will be wanting to shake my hand
and say
Hey you, you are my friend.

If nothing else, this genuinely proves how obliging SunSan was. I admit I haven't read the book, nor will I. It all sounds like the kitsch that Trip Adviser considers inspired information.
