Sunrise Tacos in BKK1
Just passed this today on the corner of 282 and 63, seems like there are some positive comments on K440 regarding their food in Bangkok.....
Menu looks pretty good albeit a tad pricey compared to other Mex options in PP. Has anyone tried their food?

I'm sure it tastes nice but don't call it "Mexican". If you ask for Nachos or a crispy taco in Mexico they wont have a clue what you are talking about. Just call it Tex-Mex otherwise people will get the wrong idea.
Why the need to point this out? Everytime someone mentions mexican food, there is always someone that HAS to say it isn't genuine mexican food! I don't think anyone has an expectation of actually eating 100% of what is served in those countries, but a version that is modified for the palates of the consumer in that country.

Because they are different cuisines. Some people get confused. Personally I encourage improved understanding and appreciation of what different cultures can offer the palate. The better half and I don't eat Chinese; we eat Sichuan, Beijing or Guangzhou. Same with Indian.rebo wrote:Why the need to point this out?

My point was, why is that as soon as someone mentions "Mexican" someone always has to jump on and state that it isn't? Yet, if there is any talk of indian or chinese food there is not the same debate and yet it, as you have pointed out, is in the same category as being over simplified. I am intrigued as to why mexican causes more debate than other food that is generically categorized incorrectly?

Hi I have been eating at the Sunrise Tocos, on Sukhumvit soi 12 in Bangkok for years. It is fantasitc!!! I will be first in line tomorrow. The barritos they do are really something special. I hope their apple pie gets put on the menue as well. I am glad they are finally here. Thanks.

Now, now, there is no need to get all petulant. Some posters speak up in relation to Mexican and Tex-Mex because they are passionate about it, this is healthy and should be encouraged. how will they add to the current scene? i'd say they're late to the game at this point
I am all for authenticity and I like to be able to try dishes that originate from places that I have never been to and never tried their food. Yet, if an Indian restaurant serves Chicken Tikka Masala, I have not seen Indians complaining that this is in fact not indian food or if a Chinese restaurant has "chow mein" on the menu this is not considered a slight on Chinese food. My home town has a lot of Thai Restaurants and there is a couple dishes that are hugely popular and served in all thai restaurants there, but I have never found it anywhere else in the world but again, Thais don't complain about the bastardization of their ethnic food to suit the locals taste preferences.
I also don't understand the debate between Vegemite and Marmite - maybe I am a heathen and should hang out at Pizza Company with Cambod
