A little help?
A little help?
Hi,
I'm a kiwi lad planning on staying in PP for the next 2-3 months. I just have a few quick questions to ask, then i will disappear.
I arrive in 2 weeks and yet to sort out some accommodation. My price range is around $180 to $220. I'm not overly fussy on the location, just need good wifi, safe and clean.
Where is a good area for road running? Last time i was in PP riverside was my choice, would like to change it up a bit this time. 8-10km distance. Also, a western standard gym
Are there any decent Aussie/Kiwi bars around?

1. Stay in a guest house.
2. Road-running: NO!
3. Decent Aussie bar: Aussie XL, St. 51
4. Western standard gym: Intercontinental/The Place/various others

He's not going to get much of a guesthouse for $6-$7 a night, especially if he wants to be near western gyms which sound like they will cost almost as much as his accommodation.
How much am i looking at for decent accommodation? Month long gym memberships shouldn't cost and arm and a leg

If you want a Western standard gym then you are going to get gouged as the cheaper memberships are for one-year periods. I think The Place will probably run around $100 a month and Sofitel will be more. You could try Muscle Gym which has some other options ($2 a visit I think) but the treadmills are clapped out.

Double your allowance to accommodation. Seriously, what's the point of spending thousands to get here, only to skimp and make yourself miserable living in a shithole while you're here.
High quality gyms are expensive for short-term membership. $100 or so per month.

Road running: yes.
I do it all the time when I am in PP, the trick is to get up really early. I usually do a loop from river front to Diamond Island, if you run to the end and back it is about 10K.

Find a nice guesthouse on street 258, maybe $250-300 a month for an aircon room. You will be very to the river and also didn't next to Cambodiana Hotel, which has a decent gym with a nice pool, steam, sauna for about $50. It's a good enough deal that many expats pay their monthly membership rates.
Good luck finding more jogging spots away from the river.

You do that by choice or is someone chasing you with a knife? I used to ride 20km in the morning, but fuel has gotten so expensive.Hanno wrote:I usually do a loop from river front to Diamond Island, if you run to the end and back it is about 10K.

You can definitely do some reasonable road running in PP if you're smart about time and location. And if you have free time, you can go a bit further out and find some good paths. It would maybe be a good idea to hook up with the hash house harriers for advice.vladimir wrote: 2. Road-running: NO!
