Ian "Snow" Woodford - New Docu Premiere, Filmmaker Q&A
There is a new documentary about the legendary Ian "Snow" Woodford by filmmaker Tim Corrigan.
It premieres this Wednesday, 11th at 8PM at Meta House - Free Entrance.
WED 11 | Ian Woodford was perhaps best known for the iconic bar he ran on the Chruy Changvar peninsula. Snow, as Woodford was known to all, opened Maxine’s Bar in a large, blue wooden house on the east side of the Tonle Sap River. It was as casual and quirky as he was. A table made from decommissioned AK-47s occupied centre room for a while. A thousand bells hung from the ceiling and when the wind blew they made beautiful music. More than one person thought it the best bar in Southeast Asia, maybe even the world. Woodford came to Cambodia in the early ‘90s. He was a throwback to the country’s bygone Untac era, a tall, wiry character whose colourful Australian language and endless Cambodian anecdotes were a cherished and longstanding part of Phnom Penh expatriate lore. Snow passed away in May 2014, age 56. Tim Corrigan’s film Snow is a vivid “account of expatriate life but one tempered by the political violence and instability” that surrounded Woodford. Corrigan will be on hand for a Q&A session after the screening.

Best bar in Phnom Penh of the time in my view. Hope the film does it justice..

Ahhh. Snowy.
Was at his old place relocated in Kampot last year.
Nice.
They've done away with most of the decor though.

I visited Maxine's quite a few times and particularly recall once having one of the most unhinged chats it has ever been my privilege to participate in with Snow, an expat who will remain unnamed and a local motodop which left me with the distinct impression that I had somehow ingested some type of psychedelic substance with my beer. Vale Snow...

It was really good, I'd recommend catching it when you get the chance, especially when you knew Snow. But not sure when the next chance will be. The screening was a late draft. So it's apparently not entirely finished yet,..

I knew Maxine's bar, never met Snowy in there, believe I was in his company once over the river, but went to showing of Snow last year at Meta House.
Great film of Snowy mostly reminiscing his life in Cambodia during the last few years of KR occupation.
I'd love to think this was available somewhere to download but never yet found it. Perhaps the DVD shops may have got hold of it by the time I return. Any one information please reply and let me know. He lived in some dangerous and exciting times over here., rather him, but told the tales so bloody well.
Sadly missed

Miss Snow and Maxine's. Was admiring one of his paintings at a friend's house only last night. Would have been over at Maxine's on a hot day like today.

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
