Martini closing soon ?
Mao Tse Tung was a river one day last wet season as LL says, right up to russian bvld. I checked the map of the water courses and sure enough it was a swamp or land previously from dang kor market to russie.
Another icon gone, another brass plaque required. It has been shitty and asianised for at least three years though so no loss- will it become a Burger King ?
Good old thermae, along with the grace hotel coffee shop it was good in the seventies when Soi 3 had a klong, but then the Arabs arrived about 79 I think and all the shophouses were built around there. I've told this story before about my missus living in the wooden house by the Klong where Bumrungrad is now I think and there was a sunbear chained to a post in the backyard. One of the grace girls and her Canadian boy friend Charlie were on the KAL jet shot down by the Russians near sakalin Island.
The playboy short time hotel with the vibrating heart shaped beds was down there too as was the German beer garden which in those days was nearly all Germans.

Playboy ST hotel is still there, on the link road between soi 11 and soi 3. Beergarden is still on Soi 7 but a tired relic of what it used to be.ken svay wrote: The playboy short time hotel with the vibrating heart shaped beds was down there too as was the German beer garden which in those days was nearly all Germans.

remember a hotel niteclub called NOVA, I think, opened before WB opened, then shut down a while later. I think it was NOVA, big dance floor and modern chrome, etc.

Got pinned under a UN Land Cruiser during a gunfight in the parking lot in 93. Loved that weird place.

Great bar staff at Martini . Been there forever. Anyone needing staff should grab them. Hell they are that good I may open a bar myself just to give them a job.

For the past 8 years I only visited once every blue moon.
Long time standing staff like a security man or the former joints selling, toilets tissue handler always greet me warmly.
As for the barmen not only do they remember my favorite drinks but also that I prefer my mixed liquor long drinks in a big glass rather than in their usual short glass...
I wish them all the best.

Who knows , it may be sold and keep trading . I heard the owners had enough and wants to move on. Maybe the lease is up for renewal and that's what's prompted the decision to bail out. It certainly can't be making much now with so much competition. Also the cafe on site was for sale recently so that could be another indicator.

Quite a few bag the place but I don't think it's too bad for what it is ..... far from classy but an ok place to have a beer. When I was living in Toul Tom Poung we would often kill some time there early in the night before heading off to classy Pontoon.
