No, not the hoagie shop next to Sharkys Bar: the excellent Singapore burger joint is coming to Phnom Penh as yet another international food eatery opens in the city. New premises are being renovated on Street 57 (where else?) and it looks like it will be open in a month or two.
Incidentally, the rumour that Starbucks is close to having several outlets in Cambodia appear to be true according to people in the business community.

Anger over new food places is weird. If you don't want to go to them don't go. It sounds like the sanctimonious wailing of Vladimir generation old timers who are stuck here rather than want to be here.
Stick to your 1.50 rice and fish places. They are going nowhere.

Where are you seeing anger, Alanclarke?
There's no anger. Just a statement of not understanding or disliking the fad of fast food and international franchises coming to Cambodia.

What's not to understand or dislike? It's called progress and development.
What they dislike is Cambodia changing from their 1995 idyll when their $1000 a month jobs made them feel like King of the Hill and they could lord it over the locals. Now they have been left behind in the economic race and they resent that locals get the chance to enjoy experiences in Cambodia that they themselves no longer can.
It's the same refrain everytime. Burger King, Starbucks, Dominos.
Simple. Stay away from the places if you don't like them but don't be such patronizing pricks that you think locals can't have access to them. As scoffer said in another thread, Cambodia has moved on and left these bitter people behind.

I personally much prefer to support the local burger joint or sandwicherie opened by entrepreneurial locals or expats.
And I don't think that BK, Domino's, KFC, Starbucks, etc. coming is a sign of development.

You've seen both angriness and bitterness in a thread that has neither.
Are you sure you didn't bring both here with you?
And agreed with Joon - far better to support the local enterprises than the international "franchise".
