Best restaurants serving both Khmer & Western food?
I know that a lot of Western restaurants have some Khmer dishes, and a lot of Khmer restaurants serve some Western dishes, but which restaurants actually excel at both? If you're in food for Western food and your girlfriend wants Khmer food, where would you go?
Titanic has a huge menu of both Western and Khmer dishes, and the ambiance is nice, but the food is just so so. What other places have a lot of Khmer options and a lot of Western options and do both well?

le orchidee imho: great food, low prices nice relaxing setting (they might take their time with bringing your food out because they cook everything fresh, but they have no problems with bringing out your drinks). well, that is if you can leave your comfort zone of the riverside and make your way to the russian market area

No way. I went there once with a girl, the food took an hour to arrive. I can't handle that much awkward small talk.HsRob wrote:le orchidee imho: great food, low prices nice relaxing setting (they might take their time with bringing your food out because they cook everything fresh, but they have no problems with bringing out your drinks). well, that is if you can leave your comfort zone of the riverside and make your way to the russian market area

I like Fine, the Blue Dolphin's sister and next door neighbor. I've had some great pastas there as well as an epic Duck dish. She can order from the Blue Dolphin's menu.
Excellent idea.wackyjacky wrote:I like Fine, the Blue Dolphin's sister and next door neighbor. I've had some great pastas there as well as an epic Duck dish. She can order from the Blue Dolphin's menu.
Then there should be many witnesses to this enchanted evening.

Backpackers think the Blue Dolphin is the epitome of fine dining. I ordered delivery from there once, it sucked.

Is a chap even allowed in there if:
a) he isn't wearing a sleeveless 'wifebeater' vest?
b) is under 50?
c) has no grey hair and doesn't wear crocs?
d) didn't used to live in Pattaya?
e) isn't accompanied by a spectaularly rough-looking bargirl/girlfriend?

You could just adapt, culturally, and compromise on expectations, try learning to appreciate what women in foreign countries want.

I've eaten there a dozen times and it's never "sucked". It's average really and the prices are good. Fine next door has been great in my 4 dinners there.gavinmac wrote:Backpackers think the Blue Dolphin is the epitome of fine dining. I ordered delivery from there once, it sucked.

It's a good question. Gavinmac's becoming quite the solicitous suitor.gavinmac wrote:What other places have a lot of Khmer options and a lot of Western options and do both well?
A lot of Westerner's could give a toss. I've seen at least a dozen times at The Rising Sun, where some bloated Westerner is hurling his full English down his gullet whilst his Khmer lady friend stoically orders some noodle soup from the Pho place across the street, which they kindly bring over.

It's hardly surprising you like both; they share the same kitchen and staff. I'm in the KiR camp on this. It's pretty awful food compared to what is available elsewhere on that road. What's with Fine's 'tapas' which comes with half a fucking baguette every serving?
