Neils pizza
I noticed that Neil's mini mart on 136 has a wood burning pizza oven, has anybody tried them?. Just wondering if it is worth a visit.
I wouldn't buy a pizza of anyone called Neil. Neil punched me at junior school because I broke his protractor.
pew, pew, pew, pew!
To some degree, you need to look at it from his angle.YaTingPom wrote:... Neil punched me at junior school because I broke his protractor.

I hope this is not going to develop into a protracted thread on puns.kinard wrote:To some degree, you need to look at it from his angle.YaTingPom wrote:... Neil punched me at junior school because I broke his protractor.

The pizzas are ok, sometimes good. Reasonable value at $4.50 - $5.50. They will deliver to places near them. We sometimes order from them for our bars' customers, if that pizza stall on 51 isn't open.

Which brings me directly to the topic : Why it is impossible to get a good pizza in Cambodia
1. They are using rice flour for the dough. You cannot use rice flour for the dough......makes the pizza taste like paper. The best would be Canadian Manitoba flour or at least normal wheat flour.
2. They could get a tasty tomato paste in supermarkets, but toooooooooo expensive, so they use this
Cent 80 KK ketchup which doesn't contain a single mg of tomato but corn starch, artificial coloring and artificial flavorings.
3. They are using this cheap block cheese (to my opinion it's cheese analogue). Have you ever tried it ? It's inedible. The best would be buffalo mozzarella (of course not available in Cambodia) or normal mozzarella mixed with Parmesan. But also Gouda or Emmental is possible. Emmental cheese is readily available in Cambodia.
4. Finally they throw some shitty TGM salami on it which perfectly rounds off the catastrophe.

I don't think that's fair AD. There are some good pizzas around. Have you tried Luigi's on Street 308?
Also, buffalo mozzarella is increasingly available in Phnom Penh. Luigi's has it, I believe.

No, I haven't, but maybe they are using the right flour, right tomato sauce and the right cheese. If they do, you won't get it for $ 4.50
Give them a try. They're pretty good. I can't remember the price, but - yeah - more than $4.50 but you get what you pay for. Around $7-$10 from memory.Advocatus Diaboli wrote:No, I haven't, but maybe they are using the right flour, right tomato sauce and the right cheese. If they do, you won't get it for $ 4.50
And at the risk of initiating another Best Pizza in Phnom Penh thread, I'm told that Brooklyn's are pretty good, but I've never had one myself. Cambod used to swear by them and you know his affection for the stuff.

Exactly that what I'm saying. Esp. when considering the prices for real and acceptable cheeses in Cambodia.scobienz wrote: ....more than $4.50 but you get what you pay for. Around $7-$10 from memory.
People always go for these $ 4.50 -5.50 pizzas, and then they get what I've described above and then they complain. For a $ 9 - 10 a good pizza should be possible (even in Cambodia).

I am sorry to hear about your unfortunate incident at junior school which I am sure has scared you for life, however that doesn't answer my questionYaTingPom wrote:I wouldn't buy a pizza of anyone called Neil. Neil punched me at junior school because I broke his protractor.
