Thanks for sharing, that was a powerful documentary and definitely something new in terms of how it was done. It was just another murder, the kind of thing that would only make the local news for a day, but being given fly on the wall access like that to everyone affected was moving. Seeing the impact it had on the family, all the lives damaged. What was refreshing is that is also humanised everyone, the police, the suspects, the victim, the gangs even the murderer. There was no finger pointing, no preaching, no attempt to apply reason to it, just an honest look at reality.pedros wrote:The Murder Detectives: C4 Doco, compelling stuff.
It was also close to home for me, Bristol's my home town and a lot of my childhood friends were mixed up in the same stuff, it didn't end well for some of them either.
Agreed. The Wire is in a class by itself. A couple friends I'd told about that show and watched it actually felt depressed after watching the last episode, as they knew nothing else could ever compare.I have recently been boring people senseless at how great it was to watch every episode of the Wire back to back. A wonderful experience. I've just finished Breaking Bad. Very good, but not up there alongside The Wire or Sopranos in my view.
Breaking bad, or deadwood, were decent placebos, and better call Saul a placebo for the placebo.
Yes, one f the best docs Ive seen for a long time. Brizzle is also my old stomping ground and remember loitering around the inkerman at night looking for 'gary'. Was never brave enough to enter.starkmonster wrote:Thanks for sharing, that was a powerful documentary and definitely something new in terms of how it was done. [quote="Steve Zodiac"]Don't bother with the latest Dr. Who, it's shite. Shame because the reboot has been very good up til now.
Actually whilst that's absolutely true, S9 has led up to last night's finale - which was utterly fuggin' awesome.

As a kid I really enjoyed the Tom Baker Doctor Who but never got in to any of the others. I'm probably missing out but thats the way it is. Kind of like the X Files after Mulder and Scully disappeared.andyinasia wrote:Steve Zodiac wrote:Don't bother with the latest Dr. Who, it's shite. I recently finished watching the Deadwood series for the second time, brilliant. Thinking of giving Spartacus ( gladiators) a repeat. I also enjoy Z nation (zombies) even though it gets a bit silly.
Trailer park boys has some newer seasons, I think 10 in total.

^ I'm a big fan of Ian McShane from back in the day of Lovejoy. Great silky voice.

“The whole secret lies in confusing the enemy, so that he cannot fathom our real intent.”
It may be one of those programmes where you need to be a fan of the author. I'm a huge Phillip K. Dick fan so it does appeal. It is a slow burner, yes, but well made.Gin&Tonic wrote:Man in the high castle. Watched the first episode the other day. Not really drawn into it. Might watch the second, depends how bored I get.
(glad I used author's full name in that sentence otherwise...)
