Just finished season 1 and 2 of 'The Detectorists' written by and staring Mackenzie Crook and co-starring Toby Jones.

Watched episode 1 last night. Great stuff.

Just finished a marathon of both. Perhaps a slight preference for first season but both awfully good. Season 3 in 2017.DetroitMuscle wrote:Season 1 of Fargo was amazing. Season 2....Meh.

Strike back was pretty watchable for a bit of gun action, 5th and last season ended recently.
Homeland has just finished its latest season.
Book of Negroes was a decent mini series earlier in the year.
I also second;
Ray Donovan
Blacksails
Hell on Wheels
Vikings

I was a little disappointed, although I was expecting a 'how to' documentary on slave ownership - bloody CanadiansTyphoon wrote: ...

If you like your tv unscripted and you're into true crime have a go at "24 Hours in Police Custody", an English documentary series, not always compelling but usually fascinating. And in more of a magazine style show remind yourself how stupid travellers (in this case Aussies) can be when visiting Thailand in "The Embassy", based around the Australian embassy in Bangkok.

Just watched yesterdays Sherlock special. Oh my god.
This morning I read reviews from the Daily Mail and Express (the only ones online at the time). Both reviewers and commenters agreed, totally up its own arse, didn't understand a word of it.
For me, it's up there with the best Sherlock episodes, which is the same as saying a candidate for the best 90 minutes of TV ever. It's both as pleasurably indulgently fanboytastic as the new Star Wars, and an exemplary presentation of pure postmodernism. I guess you either get it or you don't.

Is Sherlock still producing episodes? Last I saw was season 3. I do like this series with the insane Benedict Cumberbatch.andyinasia wrote:Just watched yesterdays Sherlock special. Oh my god.

Yeh, season 3 was about 2 years ago. So there's this one-off New Year special, and then they'll shoot series 4 to be shown in 2017. We Brits take our time and go for quality.PenhMan wrote:Is Sherlock still producing episodes? Last I saw was season 3. Yes, indeed. I am nearing the finish line of watching all 10 seasons of Spooks (Mi5, for Americans). Only 6 - 10 episodes per season. Was glad I came into this very late because now I can watch a gripping season-ending episode and then the next opener back-to-back. Many episodes featured outrageous UK-destroying plots but the acting was great, plot twists and turns surprising (though you could often see them coming due to familiarity with the writing) and attention to detail first-rate. Though a little too fast-paced for my aging brain.andyinasia wrote:

Earlier mentioned Strike Back was rather addictive for the well staged firefights and seemingly authentically portrayed. Two ex-military types I know were involved in S5, mostly shot in and around Bangkok.
