It’s TV club, not Movie club.Dallow Spicer wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 3:30 pmI’m surprised no one has mentioned The Irishman. Scorsese, De Niro, Pesci, Pacino - all at their best. Brilliant.
You never watch movies on TV?
That Netflix production never made it to the big screen btw. Looking forward to watching it.
Right now binging up on Vikings (very good so far) and that Yakuza Netflix giri/haji serie (interesting new theme)

Samurai Gourmet
I meant to mention this a while ago, but somewhere between the TV and the laptop I must have wandered into a bar ...
I have no idea why I enjoyed it as much as I did.
It is not about a samurai, it is not about a gourmet; in fact, I am hard-pressed to even tell you what it is about.
There is no nudity, no violence, no love interests, no real plot whatsoever, but it is just one of those shows that makes you feel happy - it also makes you feel like having lunch somewhere you have never been before, or trying something new, or revisiting somewhere that you have not been in decades - and having a cold beer on a hot day with your lunch
It is just 12 short episodes long, but well worth watching.
The IMDB or Wikipedia listings do not really add much more of an explanation either, it just is what it is.

Struggling a bit with giri/Haji. Some of the acting is terrible.Hot_Pink_Urinal_Mint wrote:Almost binge watched the whole series last night - so good!!

The Trial of Christine Keeler on BBC iPlayer is excellent. And is historically very accurate. It covers the Profumo Affair in considerable detail from start to finish in six hour long episodes. Some great acting. Best thing I've seen on the BBC in ages.

Yeah, it's not for everyone. If you're referring to the poor acting of the Scottish female cop, I agree - she's dreadful.slavedog wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 4:32 pmStruggling a bit with giri/Haji. Thanks for the tip about The Trial of Christine Keeler. I'm trying to find something to watch now after giving up without finishing the first episode of the Watchmen and Righteous Gemstones.

I really enjoyed Giri/Haji. The cockney gangster was the one who really grated me. Once I accepted it didn't always take itself entirely seriously, it didn't bother me so much.

doco The Great Hack
I wish I'd seen it a year ago as it parallels some of my own thoughts about the whole mess that is the internet and our data. I wish I d known what I know now eight years ago and had never joined FB and shared the way I did on that platform or other social media (here included). a lesson learned too late.
Anyway. Good doco if you like that kind of thing.

on Netflix, Don't Fuck with Cats.
excellent documentary about tracking down a killer on the internet just from a few details in a small room. Amazing what you can achieve when you set your mind to it.
There's a bit of shit in reviews about how the internet sleuths weren't the ones who found him - they managed to get pretty close. They also probably contributed to a person's suicide in the process.
I'd never heard about any of it before.

Hunters, it just landed on Amazon. Watched the first episode so far. Seems great. Also, Better Call Saul returns tomorrow.
