high rent + low high season = lets find a bigger fool than us and book a tasty profit.
would be interesting to see the last years books. at that price, probably a work of fiction.
the reason Jim sold cheap is that he could not make a reasonable return for the effort at that rental.

Note to self: Must be nice to morons.
Knowing the owners I would say that it highly unlikely. It's one thing to speculate here about purchase price and reasons for sale; it's another to talk about cooking the books.LaudJohn wrote:

$120K asking price would imply a decent profit. That much turnaround within a year with no exposure on booking dot com .... ummm. your experience in this industry in Cambodia must be different to mine.scobienz wrote:Knowing the owners I would say that it highly unlikely. To Pig Penh from Elysium Sur Mer? Surely not.LaudJohn wrote:Actually, after my experience in SHV, I would be willing to have a crack at this one for their purchase price now.
Haha - my money’s on Playboy
I have no experience in the industry. What I do have is personal knowledge of this proposed sale, its motivation and the reasons for the asking price, direct from the seller himself.LaudJohn wrote:

Either way, LJ, the implication of cooking the books is unfair and unnecessary.

It's all about the challenge.
I would suffer in silence.
I actually like the pig penh, lots of friends there and plenty of a/c bars.
Besides I could probably get enough big drinkers in to make it profitable.

I'm not interested in the business. I'm just interested in making better-informed smart ass comments about the proposed sale.

No one should assume that profit is any indication of the asking price of a going concern.
An owner is entitled to the benefits of a cashed up moron without resorting to fraud.
I apologise to the vendors. I am sure that your books do not reflect a profit relevant to the asking price. I was just applying logic, forgetting this is a business for sale in Cambodia.

I doubt there's much that differentiates this bar from others in the Penh enough to justify that price tag.

I know they were doing pretty well with the room rentals and added some to the existing structure as they were running at full capacity.
But it's not easy to manage 2 locations efficiently, and the bar might have been more profitable, I don't know.
