Italian restaurants in PP, what do you think of it?
Hello All,
I wrote another post recently in the Business section as I was thinking to do Italian "street food" but now my idea is evolving in something simpler:
preparing home made real (and genuine) Italian food and delivering it (or making it there) to bars and cafes.. Maybe doing it directly at people's home (home made pasta, pizza, etc) for dinner or parties. I am preparing a blog with samples of the dishes that i make.
Do you know if there are many Italian restaurants in town? What do you think of it? Does the food looks (and specially tastes) really Italian? Are the owners Italian?
Curious to hear what you think
Thanks a lot to all
Cheers,
dp

Piccolo Da Italia Luigis is right at the sweet spot in terms of price, authenticity (Sicilians) and quality of ingredients. A lot of which are imported.
Id benchmark against that. Too high end and you'll be without enough clientele like Terraza often is, too low end you'll have problems too, as the quality benchmark in PP has risen substantially in the last 5 years.

Which Italian restaurants do you think are 'good' ?
What level / standard are your aiming for in your food business ?
I'm struggling to think of a really good Italian restaurant in town, and think there is a real gap in the market for a home style no frills. Piccolo / Luigis is probably as close to it as possible, but it's an awkward location, never particularly comfortable and (I think) only does pizza and antipasto. The others seem to be more high end, and that comes with the issues PH has mentioned.
The closest is Genova, which is run by an affable Italian guy who makes his own pasta yet still manages to turn our good dishes for 5-7 bucks each. He used to be on 154 but has moved to a place just off Riverside. I heard a rumour he is looking to sell, but am not sure.
Genova is a place I notice when I walk past and think I should go to more often, but then promptly forget about it. I hope it is doing ok.

Thank you for the information. I am new to the city so I can't judge the quality of the food as i haven't tried yet. This was also the reason I wrote this post, to have an idea of what is in the city already and starting by trying to eat in the restaurants that are considered "good" for people living in PP.
For my taste "good" means being able to feel and distinguish the ingredients that are making the dish, not feeling artificial flavors and seasonings, and being able to experience the authentic taste of the recipe (in this case Italian). Things to me should be simple and genuine. When I travel that is what I am looking for. My target is people that wants to experience Italian food as it's taught by grandmothers: genuine and authentic. I think the price would be in line with average (not top end, not cheap) but having high quality ingredients.
It starts from my passion for good food, not as a business plan. The idea of bringing the Italian tradition around the world (I am traveling by bicycle) excites me and stimulates me, that's why I would like to try

No. It moved a year or so ago to a new location on St 118, Riverside end.

In SHV we have almost always been blessed to have very decent Italian eateries serving familial dishes and pastas ranging from "pineapple priced" to "cheap enough" and small enough so that it is always the Italian chef cooking.
At the moment it is a young Italian khmer chef that cooks like any Italian and this month the next door former Italian favorite is reopening under new management
