Benefit raffle for Joe Garrison
Benefit raffle for Joe Garrison
Hello all,
Joe Garrison is a well known long term expat who is in Malaysia being treated for cancer. Joe has lived here and worked as a photographer for at least the last 15 years....and is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. We need to raise some serious coin to help Joe out with his medical bills, so....we are going to do a benefit raffle for Joe.
This week, I will be contacting various bars and businesses to see if they are willing to contribute a prize to the raffle. I already have been told that: Sharkys, Larry's, The Exchange are willing to contribute, and of course the Lone Star will put a bar tab to be raffled off. It is my guess that we can likely get 10-20 bar tabs and prizes for the raffle. Participating bars will be able to sell raffle tickets......and the drawing will be held at Sharkys. Tickets will be 5.00.
I would like to ask any bars or businesses that can contribute to pm me. I would like to ask everyone else to think of who they might know that could contribute. I think that most of the bar owners I know will be happy to put something up, but there are so many expats and bars now....that there are many that are out of my orbit.
I think this could be a really fun event, and I am hopeful we can put a dent in some of Joe's medical bills.
There is also a gofundme page for those who would like to contribute that way.
Thank you,
Greg

Well done Greg. Joe is a good friend and a great guy and he deserves all the support he can get. Count me in.
Joe has been a good friend of mine for almost 15 years and is a super nice guy. Any donations are greatly appreciated. Greg good idea for the raffle!!

Another reminder to expats for why having insurance is actually a good idea!
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
It also appears a good idea to drink often at different bars. That's a health policy I can buy into.PSD_Kiwi wrote:Another reminder to expats for why having insurance is actually a good idea!

Just beat me to itLaudJohn wrote:When is this likely to happen Greg?
Never mind
Well, I am going to finalize a list of sponsors by early next week. Then Sharky's will make some posters and we will get tickets. Then, those locations that are willing can sell raffle tickets for two or three weeks......and then we will have the drawing. So, I would guess the drawing would be in late April after Khmer New Year.
LJ,
Think you can get some sponsorship or ticket sales down in Snooky? The only issue is that the person will need to be present to win at the drawing.

Because proxy bar parties..........suck. This hopefully will be a good turnout at Sharky's and a great event. The main reason we would like those to be present to win...is that it is much cleaner. We do the event, have all the winners, and the bar owners don't have to worry about tracking people down.

I meant only for the few who cannot be present but still wish to partake. They appoint you, for example as a proxy, you draw the ticket online, they see the result, you have their phone number, no tracking down needed.

I think that might work. If LJ wanted to come to the raffle with a bunch of tickets from the beach.......I will bring that up to the management of Sharky's.
