Aqua Resort ceasing operations
According to FB, Sihanoukville's Aqua Resort - owned and run by a member here, I believe - is ceasing operations and will be used instead as staff headquarters for one of the large casinos down there. It sounds like a good move, but I'm sure some here will mourn its passing and new function as lodgings for imported blackjack dealers from Guilin Province, or wherever the fuck they come from to deal cards in the downtime when they're not running boiler room scams.
A sign of the times for Sihanoukville perhaps.

I know I'm unloveable. You don't have to tell me. I don't have much in my life, but take it - it's yours.
I guess you can make more $$$ will full occupancy casino employee housing than chancing the short seasonal family tourist market. Less hassle too.

Anyway congrats Laudjohn, impeccable timing at the beginning of the low season. Nice to see a barang come out better off from a commercial venture once in a long while.
Wait....is LJ still the owner and will he still manage it ?
I just had visions of the 8 to a room croupiers whingeing to LJ saying " oh Mr John we cannot pay rent this month "
"Never mind love.....we can sort something out....."

Didn't Orchidee Guesthouse get bought out by the Chinese? They seem to have hand painted the roof a fantastic bright gold a short time ago on that place. Is it so as to make it more visible from outer space or does it cool the building or sumting?

Aren't croupiers at Cambodian casinos mostly hot chicks, or is that only at Nagaworld?

Here is what I posted on facebook yesterday.
The AQUA family Resort will be closing on 17 April 2017. It has been leased to the Ya Dou Li casino for use as staff accommodation.
It has been a great nearly three years for me with some good friendships made and great staff and some interesting times.
The offer was just too good to refuse.
Comment:
A lot of people, regulars and long term stayers, are gutted by this news. We had a real nice friendly community at Aqua. Myself and others looked forward to catching up with regulars in the high season and regular visits from PP friends.
The following email was sent just the other day from one of those regular long term guests/friends:
"I found myself getting a little emotional yesterday leaving Aqua. It was like leaving your family not knowing if you will ever see them again.
I know that we will see each other again, but it just won't be the same without Aqua. While trying to hide my emotions I may have cut short some of my farewell's to people that I really care about".
Change in SHV has been pretty rapid of late, I believe it is going ballistic right now. In 4 years time you will not recognise the place, especially the Ochheateal area nor the make up of the tourists.
It is a completely different place to the place I loved in 2001. It has also changed lots since 2010 and the pace of change now appears exponential. I am not sure how much I will base myself here in coming times. Very few of my old timer friends from over a decade ago are left, mind you there are plenty of new friends but holidays for my Daughter will be vastly different, no hotel and pool to run around and play in with her friends here.
However I will concentrate on my next venture which is to develop an apartment block finished to Western Standards (something completely lacking currently here) and if that works then other developments.

I've always thought LJ had excellent slum landlord potential.

Yes. It only took 12 years and the Chinese to make it happen.gavinmac wrote:Sure but people have been saying that since at least 2004.LaudJohn wrote:

Air Asia will be flying into here before August.

this same thing has been happening all over the place they, the Chinese, have taken over an awful lot of complete buildings from Victory hill area all the way over to almost Otres, the Polawi Hotel near there which never had much custom now has a metal wall/fence outside and I've seen mini buses dropping off Chinese who clearly live there.....if this keeps up there will be very little tourist /expat places to stay anywhere down here despite about 10 plus new big developments almost finished round town
Too bad, I liked that place.
LJ, you were the manager there? I don't remember your real name, slips my mind.
I do remember that hot bartender Tina.

If you don't know where you're going, any road takes you there.
