ANZAC DAY Sihanoukville

Following on from last year another ANZAC DAY service will be held at Sihanoukville on 25th April,2017.

The service will be at Porky"s Bar on Ochheuteal Beach at 7am.

Coffee and tea provided and a breakfast will be available after the service.

Interesting to note the Koo Wee Rup RSL in Victoria have kindly offered support to the Sihanoukville ANZAC SERVICE.
The support is very much appreciated.

Service starts at 7am.

64 people attended this mornings ANZAC Service overlooking the beach in Sihanoukville.

Laying of the wreaths was very emotional.

The ANZAC Address included the role Cambodians had in the First World War

With all due respect. There is only one official ANZAC Day commemoration in Cambodia and that is in the grounds of the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh. Any other similar events are not authorised or recognised by either Australia or Cambodia and have no authority to call themselves "ANZAC Day" commemorations. Let's be clear about this.

And yes, I attended this year's ANZAC Day Commemoration at the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh and I have done so for quite a number of years now as a Malayan and SVN ARA veteran.

OML, with all due respect from one vet to another, does it really matter whether it is an official service or not? Not everyone lives in a town where an 'official' service is held, it is good to see members of the community organizing their own services out of respect, this is also quite often the case in small towns in NZ and Aus also.

Speaking of the ANZAC Dawn Service at the Aus Embassy in PP, why do people think it's ok to turn up wearing singlets (wifebeaters), shorts and jandals (thongs, flip flops)? I see it every year I attend and this year was no different, the least attendees could do is put a collared/polo shirt on.

Yes, I understand the sacrifices/horrors involved, no disrespect whatsoever, but generally we don't see the same value placed on this conflict from other nations.

Not everyone can attend the Phnom Penh ANZAC Service for various reasons.
The Sihanoukville service was organised to allow local expats the chance to remember the fallen.
The Australian Embassy was informed of the service in Sihanoukville.
ANZAC services are not exclusive but inclusive.
65 people attended and it was the 2nd year a service was held.
In New Zealand every community has an ANZAC service. To suggest an expat community anywhere cant have a service is outside the ANZAC spirit!!

Aussies are a bit odd celebrating/remembering their fallen.

Anzac Day celebrated this Wednesday the 25th is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders "who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations" and "the contribution and suffering of all those who have served".
Kevin and Friends and Aussie Outback Foods will be honoring this day with Live Music and Gigantic Chicken WIngs with Avie's special sauce (are these really Chickens ? and we invite everyone for a great time with fun people.

significant because of the way it came to define and unite a young nation...
the values it came to symbolise (courage, selflessness, comradeship etc) became the inspiration and source of celebration for generations to come...

Attendees should show some respect and dress modestly and apropriately. But again this year at the 2018 observance of ANZAC Day we had a few in such attire.

I though total attendance was down this year at Aust Embassy PNH.
Fewer veterans wearing medals.
Tourist numbers up considerably.

Better and more seating was widely welcomed.
Pathetic "breakfast" organization and substance compared with past years.

Aust Boarder Force (ABF) once again singled me out for special treatment and searched/tested my walk on bag, mobile phone and personal papers and wallet etc on return to Sydney and, ignoring my medals and RAS Badge etc made me stand on cold concrete for an hour and a half. I'm losing my respect for ABF as they did much the same to me on my return to Sydney on February. Such inquisitions are nothing more than pure harrassment of an old digger who returns to Cambodia many times each year and has done so for the past 26 almost 27 years now.

Let's wait and see what happens on my returns in August and November. I would appear to be a high risk Australian of some sort or another on some watch list or other, notwithstanding 26 years in the ADF followed by 12 in the UN on behalf of Australia.

God willing, weather permitting, looking forward to catching up with others on ANZAC Day PNH 2019.
