Uber launches in Cambodia with a killer promotion
According to this, Uber has launched a beta service in Cambodia to take on local rivals like Exnet, and there is a pretty impressive kickstart promotion offer up for grab. As for as I can work out, if you download the app and in the payment section insert promo code PPBeta2, you will receive your first 25 rides for free, up to a value of $10 each.
How that will work in practice is anyone's guess. I had enough trouble getting taxis to turn up when I was paying cold hard cash; I can't imagine local uber drivers being too keen to spend the first month or two ferrying people around for nothing.
Anyway . . . here is the article:

I can't imagine uber wouldn't be covering the drivers pay. You do know how it works don't you?scobienz wrote: I can't imagine local uber drivers being too keen to spend the first month or two ferrying people around for nothing.
There's a whole uber section on TOF if you need to catch up.

Done and it works although I cannot see me using the free credit up for some time as I live in SHV!
I wonder if will expire after the beta period?

Looks like that at least for me, expiry date is 5th July. But in Malaysia they have constant promo campaigns. Last time in KL and Penang, I paid total of 10RM for 1,5 weeks riding around (every day I did at least 4 trips). But in Malaysia they have to compete with Grab and other apps for the marketshare. Cambodian counter parts cannot compete as hard if at all.YaTingPom wrote:Done and it works although I cannot see me using the free credit up for some time as I live in SHV!

I think PassApp and the other one 711Ezgo work quite ok, especially if you take taxis often they upgrade you to the SUV for free. From airport to the cross road between Hanoi and Russia Blvd. is about 5$.

So far not a car to be found.

Hahahah. I wondered about that. I see Facebook is full of excited people loading the app but are there any drivers in Phnom Penh. In the U.K. the app shows you where cars are in real time around. I suspect the little cars will be replaced by tumbleweed in PNH.

Then you aren't getting a free SUV upgrade - that distance should be $3 for a standard fare.jackrossi wrote:I think PassApp and the other one 711Ezgo work quite ok, especially if you take taxis often they upgrade you to the SUV for free. For me the clincher is that they are a bit (sometimes a lot) cheaper than Tuktuk's without having to negotiate & spend ages explaining where you want to go.
Uber had no cars in my area last night PassApp had 4 taxis and 2 rickshaws within 2 streets.

A friend used it yesterday and it worked, for free. It's not the drivers that work for free, but Uber subsidizes them, I'm pretty sure.
There are at least 5 cars available from the independence monument to riverside at the moment.

That's about as similar to uber as the car in my garage or the Tuktuks on the street corner.ricecakes wrote:There is a perfectly good underground uber that has operated for years in Phnom Penh. Basically just a network of private cars. Cheap. Punctual. I use them for airport runs mostly.

You have a garage and put your car in there!
It must be well expensive, is it a Kia?
