Uber launches in Cambodia with a killer promotion
Update on Uber Cambodia. Problems with the app hanging have not been resolved. Also, last night I again had a driver start the ride long before he reached me. I tried to cancel but could not. Although he never picked me up, the ride was not ended (it's still running 12 hours later). I don't know if this is the driver trying to ramp up the fare or Uber systems not working properly. Although I paid no cash to the driver, he will still make money as Uber are paying 50% of the fare at the moment.
I would recommend people only use Uber by cash payment at present, do not give them your credit card.
Also avoid using Uber after midnight, which is when the problems with drivers seem to occur. In contrast I have had no problems with Exnet drivers late at night.

Can you see what the fare is up to after 12 hours?

Thats dumb. Uber uses the drivers GPS positioning and also the riders. The driver cannot start a ride and drive for so many hours without a rider. Also, there is fantastic customer support resolution. If that ride or fare is showing on your app, there are multiple ways to report the problem to Uber. Trust me, you will not be charged. It is likely that the driver went out of service and still has not reconnected. I wouldn't worry about the credit card. Don't forget, that your destination is also inputted by you, so therefore if your driver is driving to Thailand while you ordered Aeon Mall, its another tip off that theres a problem. Don't worry bout it, watch it and if you see that theres a problem, just go to the app and report it properly. They are quick to respond.QED wrote:Update on Uber Cambodia. Machiavelli, Thanks for your input. From the way you talk I am guessing you are American and therefore maybe have experience of Uber. I am new to it. I can say for sure the driver started the ride before he arrived. I never even saw the car. From what you are saying, he must have driven to my destination to be able to collect the fare (and even if he did that you would presumably say he could not charge without me in the car, but he did). He got no money from me but he did collect the 50% promotion element from Uber, and he would have got the other 50% from me if Uber had my credit card. Interestingly the 50% fare that he collected was higher than the 100% fare that I was charged by the Exnet driver.
I think the issue with the ride not ending must be an Uber systems issue, not the driver leaving it open. I can see that the fares were normal even though the rides were shown as ending many hours after they actually did. Except In one case where the (50%) fare raked up to $11 instead of the $2 it would normally be. I didn't have to pay the higher fare because it only showed as $2 when I left the car.
I'm still not convinced that it is a good idea to give them a credit card. I shall stick to cash.
Edited to clarify.

One time on EXNET my driver called me to say that he had accepted the job accidentally and he wasn't coming to get me. I tried to cancel the job and rebook but the app hung and I was 'on that journey' for the next hour or so. I called the driver and he told me he was out of money on his phone and had no internet. When he recharged then the app would reset.
30'mins later it worked ok.
Irritating I couldn't use either exnet or PassApp during that time - they seem to have a DB crossover.
I'd expect that your UBER issue could have been similar. The driver most likely ran out of money/internet on his phone and the app got stuck.

Tried Uber but kept crashing. Downloaded Exnet and have done two journeys ok.
Driver told me the TukTuk boys get pissed off when a taxi turns up! Good.

pew, pew, pew, pew!
On one occasion I was outside Shanghai bar. The tuktuks wanted 2 USD to take me to street 102. I told them I would call an Exnet taxi but they did not understand. While I was waiting one tuktuk driver kept saying "two dollar OK brother?" I told him, "no thanks, it's OK I take a car". He never dropped his price. Then after three minutes a Lexus arrived and in I climbed. The tuktuk driver looked a bit stunned. The fare was 6000 riel. That's when I realised the tuktuks have some serious competition in PP.YaTingPom wrote:Tried Uber but kept crashing. Downloaded Exnet and have done two journeys ok.

Maybe (that would certainly explain it) but it has been happening on almost every ride with Uber and it never happens when I use Exnet, Itsumo and 711.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:One time on EXNET my driver called me to say that he had accepted the job accidentally and he wasn't coming to get me. Is there any word if Uber will start offering Uber Moto in PP? It works fantastically well here in HCM. Been using it about three times a day with very few issues. Incredibly cheap as well, compared to negotiating with a motodop.
Not heard of that. How much do you pay per km? The cheapest option in PP that I have found are the Indian-made tuktuks offered by 711Go. The minimum fare is $0.75. That seems to take you 1 km. A 3km ride costs $1.25.Driftless wrote:Is there any word if Uber will start offering Uber Moto in PP? It works fantastically well here in HCM. I wasn't sure how to interpret this promo. $4 off each trip? So free for many trips?
