i have been successfully using uber via my ipad tethered to my phone, as the app doesn't display properly on my shitty little phone. I am unlikely to use it after the free ride deadline, but am grateful for the opportunity to trial it at the moment. Mostly (out of about 9 trips) it's been fine.. I am not one to wait around. I do like instant gratification ... in most things... :bonez: , so waiting for the car to arrive (or not, in one case) is an irk but one i'll live with while it is free.

Actually Uber is trying everything to reach out their clients easily. As much as possible they want the clients to change their thinking that when you travel you should use Uber. Why? Because it is convinient, safe, practical and you will feel comfortable during trips

Uber isn't as convenient as stepping out on to the street and getting a tuk tuk. It requires pre planning

At the minute it does. But the other taxi hailing apps are pretty widespread now. The past two times I have called one a tuktuk taxi has been at my door in less than 3 mins. No calls for directions just a phone call to say they have arrived.
Uber may, in time, have a similar response time.
I actually find the uber type apps much more convenient. No bartering, easy understanding of destination. Limited interaction with the driver (if you don't want to).
Also, in rainy season it's much more convenient!

Agreed, Uber is dryer, more comfortable and safer than tuktuks (and haggle-free). Judging by the indicated prices, it is also cheaper a lot of the time. Lately I have found Uber driver availability to be better than Exnet and Itsumo. Most Uber drivers are now getting the hang of getting one's destination off the screen so also no need to tell them where to go (although it can still help sometimes to avoid traffic jams). Funny how some (not all ) drivers don't move for several minutes after accepting the ride. Does this happen in other countries? Another occasional problem with ride shares in PP is when the driver cruises past the pick up point and you have to chase him down the road.
I have had 50 Uber rides and only one driver was a problem. He started the ride before arriving, then terminated also before arriving, then saw me and wanted me to get in (suspiciously he had a Khmer friend in the passenger seat). I declined, whereupon he demanded payment in cash (he was getting paid by Uber). For what I asked?
I don't see myself using another tuktuk except for drivers I already know well. I'm so bored of the absurd price quotes and the haggling. Plus I've seen too many turn onto their sides.
The Indian tuktuks that 711 and Itsumo provide are a lot better than PP ones. They go pretty fast, slide through smaller gaps, and have a reverse gear. And at the moment they are all new. I even had one with a seat belt (lap belt only).

I have noticed recently that Uber rides are not closing. So I have to cancel the ride from yesterday before I can book a new one. It also seems to generate a large fare for the driver due to the long time.

I tried to use uber in Bangkok on weekend and 8 minutes of treal after accepting ride Driver was on hotel road and looked a couple hundred metres away he sat there for minutes then he cancelled and i got charged a THB45 fee which I was given credit for but could not apply against the outstanding fee. I never used then again and had to message uber to apply the credit as credit was not available in Cambodia but I neeed to pay my THB45 fee. This did this very quickly but I should not be charged a fee when the driver cancels

Free trial period ends today. mostly good while it lasted. Only two and a half hiccups out of 15 rides.

This sounds good, but does anyone think this will really help businesses? Agents will still need to be used and will still charge the same, right?
