Went to Chaplin's last night. My first impression when walking up to it around 9 p.m. was one of horror because I saw a lot of balloons and people. It was quite crowded despite the bar's large double-shophouse size. I guess it was just their second night open and this was an opening party of sorts. The crowd thinned out a bit later.
They were offering a free beer, red wine, or white wine, which I appreciated.
The girls are attractive, some of them are ex-Shanghai. They wear white button down shirts and black skirts and black neckties and bowler hats. I understand they will be adding suspenders to the uniform. No moustaches planned.
We had a good time there, I guess the idea is upscale hostess bar, no barfines, the girls don't ask for lady drinks. I don't think it even qualifies as a hostess bar under my
ten point test. I think they had (six?) girls working there, and they spent most of their time actually doing work and serving drinks. So it's not like many hostess bars that have dozens of girls just sitting around waiting to be bought a lady drink. They may be planning to add more staff though. No Connect Four, no Jenga, etc. It's classier, you could take a woman there.
There's a lot of Charlie Chaplin related decor and they have two private rooms upstairs with sofas. They will be serving food soon.
I recommend checking the place out.
