Lone Star Vs. Sundance? Lone Star Wins

Went into sundance for lunch yesterday. Had been there a few times before and thought the food was okay. I walked in and sat down and the waitress came over and brought me the menu. She asked if i wanted to a drink and I ordered one. I looked at the menu and waited about 5 minutes for her to come back, she stood behind the bar and never came. She served the table next to me and I made direct eye contact for a long period of time, she never did nothing. I waited until she came back to the table and tried to call her attention, in english and khmer, she didn't respond. I just started laughing based on how weird she was acting. Went to the bar , paid for my drink and left. I'm aware this is typical behavior for cambodia, it's not my first rodeo, but this still a weird occurrence.

Went over to Lone Star around the corner which I had been to once before. Was greeted with great service and a friendly owner. Ordered my food and it arrived within 5-6 minutes. Owner came over and politely checked to see if the food was okay. Waitress came over when I was finished and asked if it was okay to clear the plate. Excellent service and excellent food.

Though there are some differences, I consider these two places to be similar. Maybe Lone Star is a 1-2 dollars more per plate, but the food is great and service is spot on. I will not be returning to Sundance but will definitely be back to Lone Star.

I agree that service can be spotty at Sundance. I avoided the place like the plague for the first year or two it opened (forgot how long it's been open now), but started going semi-regularly a few months ago. The problem is that it's a big place so if you're sitting outside, staff sometimes won't come over. It becomes one of those awkward "is this one of those places I have to go to the bar to order a drink?" kind of places. At other times they come regularly and it's fine. Last few times I went they had hired an older slightly stocky woman and she's excellent. The main girl behind the bar is nice and really good but I think she's supposed to stay behind the bar. She'll come over if you wave at her while sitting inside, but I get the feeling she's not the one supposed to go outside.

Lonestar is a single shop house bar with no outdoor seating, so it's kind of difficult for staff to forget about you.

Lonestar has the risk of not only seeing, but being forced to sit next to gonk.

GONK is out of the country for a while.

Lonestar has always been known for good food. Sundance has always been known for meth heads.

Haven't been back to Sundance since waiting 20 minutes for service while sitting in one of the booths. Maybe 2 other customers in the whole place. When they finally came to serve us, 'no food, only snacks' by a grumpy woman. Confused, I pressed for why, as the menu we'd been looking at was on the table when we arrived and there was nothing indicating the normal menu wasn't available. Then another staff member who had been sitting at table next to ours, who had been watching us looking at the menu and calling for service for 20 minutes piped up and simply yelled, 'no food today'.

Was a fun place once upon a time, and had decent food, but won't be back.

Ha! This reminds me of at least twice last year Sundance had no bacon for breakfast. Anyway, Sundance has definitely been fading in terms of food and becoming a magnet for severe abusers of drugs and alcohol and practitioners of abhorrent behaviour. A shame really.

Have had a few good drink-ups in Sundance and will continue to go for the occasional beer but it's not somewhere anyone should go to eat.

I remember once ordering a cocktail for a change - long island ice tea, I recall. It came out in an Angkor beer glass. :eyes:
