You might be thinking of the original Lone Star Bar, which IIRC was around there somewhere.

Lone Star was on 172.
I thought she might be thinking of Rory's.

Freebird I would visit in 2012 when I lived walking distance near Asian Urban Teahouse hotel, never had it after I moved from that area.
Rory's I went to a few times in 2012/2013 as well. I remember a bald-headed bar manager who always seemed to be completely off his tits, I think he went over to Golden Sorya Swiss Cam for a very brief time after he was out at Rory's. I recall the absentee owner trying to sell Rory's for a while viewtopic.php?f=16&t=42059

I've never met the guy but I've never heard a good word about him either. I don't know why he's universally reviled. Maybe it's because he's a born again twat? KIR said he used to put on a Christmas dinner for all his staff every year, which is nice - however he made the terrible mistake of sitting in an empty seat at the table which was reserved for.......Jesus.Alexandra wrote: ↑Sat Apr 04, 2020 2:18 pmHaha, that’s the guy that was going to put GavinMac the ant in his place and sue him for asking about Eric Erdmann the pedophile working for Home of English.
I used to go to Freebird a bit but not since the original owner sold up because everyone said the quality went to shit afterwards.

I think the opening of Larry's contributed greatly to killing Freebird, Lonestar, and Garage.Lucky Lucan wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2020 12:01 amI've never met the guy but I've never heard a good word about him either. Usually bars drop after they sell particularly when regular customers are there to catch up with the owners. Lonestar was certainly a prime example. It was Greg's influence that kept the repeat customers coming back. Garage and JM were one entity. Take JM out of the equation and you had just another (tiny) hole in the wall.

But didn't Lonestar, Garage and Freebird all sell not long after Larry's opened?

I think Dunk first sold food below Sharky, where the sub sandwich place is.
Tsunami Andy may be correct in that Freebird was on 240 for a short time East of the current location in either The Shop or Frizz buildings. Embassy John or Professor Steve probably know something about this.
These 3 bars (+Cadillac) were developed into good places by American guys, and later fell after changing ownership into the hands of the damn Commonwealth.

They all changed ownership shortly after Larry's opened and started sucking away the business, right?Kampong Blues wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2020 8:58 pm

Well, Khmer440's first post about Larry's 110 bar was made here on January 12 2014, and it mentioned Larry's had been open for more than six weeks. That would suggest that Larry's opened in late 2013, perhaps in November 2013.
My Facebook feed tells me that the American owners of Garage sold it to the Australian riverboat guy at the end of August 2014. (A year later, the Australian sold it to a Brit, who kept it less than two years before selling it to the landlord).
The Cavern closed its kitchen in mid-September 2014, ten months after Larry's opened, and two weeks the original Garage sale.
Eight months later, Raz posted here in May 2015 that Freebird was for sale.
A year and half later, the American owner of Lonestar posted here in December 2016 that Lonestar was for sale.
I believe the timelines support my assertion. The popularity and success of Larry's killed off all these places.
