An interesting article here by George Wright on the early western KR apologists.

Forbidden thoughts - westerners who supported the Khmer Rouge
I can understand that foreigners were duped into believing whatever the KR showed them. And at the time, escorted and with no opportunities to go off the planned visits, I can understand that turning a blind eye was a subconscious way of protecting themselves. But the following is a shocking attempt at not admitting to one's mistake and delusion:
However, Mr. Myrdal has continued to maintain that the Khmer Rouge was a force for good. In a 2006 article entitled “I Saw No Mass Murder,” he argued Cambodia would be better off today if Pol Pot had been able to follow through with his revolutionary goals.
“What I should further state is that…I am convinced that if Democratic Kampuchea had been able to continue to follow Pol Pot’s plans to build the country with their own power…then the Khmers would have been in a much happier position today,” he wrote.

very good read, thanks

Not so strange. There's always been a loud, vocal part of western society that loves communism, and wishes that all west could live in perfect harmony ... communist harmony, that is.
Don't worry, be happy.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Looks like the Daily got the scans of Klein's book from my blog. No complaint though. They are welcome to it and it's not like it was mine anyway.
Here's a link to something I wrote about this a few years ago, scans of about half of Klein's 'Kampuchea' book (I have the whole book but it was too time-consuming to scan the whole thing), and (what I am pretty sure is) Kline's response in the last couple of comments. Respect to him for facing up to the whole thing and responding both to me and the Daily. That's more that can be said of many of the other westerners in his position.
