Interesting read! I like how it describes how Buddhism came from Angkor to Thailand, and that there was a continuous exchange up until the late centuries of Buddhist knowledge within the Thai and Khmer territories, and with Sri Lanka. Also interesting to read how certain Angkorean traditions were still continued by the Khmer monks, like the writing of inscriptions, and the believe in the magical power of the inscriptions to guarantee a better next life and the fullfilment of certain wishes made in the inscriptions.kke802 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 9:41 amA paper on The Role of Khmer monks back in the 16th to 19th century by Vong Sotheara from the Royal University Of Phnom Penh. I am wondering. To whom did the ancient Khmer people address the inscriptions? Did they believe they made use of a magical power, similar to Brahman in Hinduism? Did the ancient Khmer people believe it was addressed to a God or a godly power which would grant the wishes? Or did the ancient Khmer people believe it was just sent out to the universe, which means they believed that the universe itself interacts with the people and their efforts?

I don't know how to answer your question but there are still Brahman priests who officiate over events like the Ploughing Ceremony here. I believe some may have Sri Lankan roots but they mainly reside in Bangkok now.
