I listened to some of Al Rockoff's ECCC testimony yesterday and he kept mentioning "Khmer Rumdo". Never heard of them, but turns out there is a wikipedia page.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khmer_Rumdo
It says they dressed in green fatigues instead of the black pajama uniforms. I wonder if some of the April 17 photos I've seen with green fatigues are those guys. Apparently, their loyalty was more to Sihanouk or some of them tied to N. Vietnam as opposed to loyalty to the Center. Over time, this diluted loyalty seems to have played a role in the Eastern Zone purges...if I'm reading the wiki page right.
Al Rockoff & Khmer Rumdo
Can you post a link to al rockoffs eccc testimony please.
He had 6 testimony sessions found on the eccc site. Scroll down on the eccc page for the testimonies.

These are stereo with English in the right channel and French in the left channel so it's hard to hear him.
For the two sessions on Jan 29, 2013, I removed the French, made both channels English, clipped out all of the silence, long pauses, "uhhhs", and it reduced the times a lot without removing any of the dialogue. I plan to do the same for the other testimony sessions and eventually put them on youtube.
For now, you can listen to the compressed Jan 29 sessions at the links below:

Ben Kiernan's "The Pol Pot Regime" has quite a bit about Khmer Rumdo. It says they were pro-Sihanouk and pro-Vietnamese and were concentrated in Prey Veng in the Eastern Zone. Kenneth Quinn in early 1974 reported fighting between them and Khmer Krahom from the Southwest Zone under Ta Mok. The KK wanted the KR to stop co-operating with PAVN/ Vietcong forces in their zones.
Heng Samrin is described as belonging to the Khmer Rumdo. There is also a Khmer Saw or "White Khmer" group described. It says they were pro-Sihanouk and anti-collectivization. Most were Chams. These broke away from the KK in late 1974 and continued working with Vietnamese. Many KK in Svay Rieng deserted and joined them. The Khmer Rumdo were still in the fold at victory and took part in the evacuation of Phnom Penh.
There are also "Khmer Krahom Serei" or Free Red Khmers mentioned. These were based in Koh Kong. Tea Banh was one notable commander. The group fled to Thailand after Mok's SW forces tried to purge them in 1974. One other is "Khmer Khieu" or Blue Khmer who were active in the SW Zone in the early 70s.

Phone tape of JFK and Hilsman discussing Sihanouk, Khmer Serei, CIA, Thailand and Vietnam.
Hilsman is doing most of the talking.
