MEALEA LAY'S singing career began within the walls of a Phnom Penh temple where she sought refuge after travelling from her small rice-growing village in Kampong Cham Province. The monks at Wat Sarawan encouraged the diminutive diva with 5000 riel per song. Mealea doesn't live in the temple anymore, but she still spends her days intoning the rich Khmer catalog, with a voice that evokes the fragile beauty of a Houy Meas or Ros Seryesothea. Along the way she has teamed up with country bumpkin Joe Wrigley, who offers acoustic guitar backing and cowboy counterpoint. Plus very special guests.

Scott Bywater is a kind of a music guy who writes a bit: this means he is a poet, singer, guitar and harmonica player, who dabbles with drums and percussion, writes songs and occasionally tries his hand at lo-fi video.
Tonight at Sharky Bar. Showtime 9pm. Free entry

UK singer-songwriter Joe Wrigley has taken his guitar all around the world looking for musicians to share his love of Rockabilly music. The band Joe Wrigley & The Jumping Jacksis the result of one man’s obsession with a certain period of Rock’n’Roll history in between the energetic Country music of Hank Williams and the British Beat Groups of the early 1960’s. Joe continues to search for the magical 1950’s sound of Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran and Buddy Holly that never fails to fill the dance floor and bring a smile to the audience.
The Joe Wrigley & The Jumping Jacks 'Power Rockabilly Trio' comprises of ace British drummer Andy Potter (Niki Buzz Band) and expert South-African bassist Andre Swart(Kheltica, Grass Snake Union). With both Andy and Andre lining up at well over six-and-a-half-feet-tall on the stage, lead singer and guitarist Joe Wrigley can feel a little short standing beside them! The 'four-metre rhythm section' provides an extremely powerful visual, as well as musical, presence during the Jumping Jacks show. Together, the trio echo the raw, effervescent and stripped-down style of early Memphis Sun Records cuts by Elvis Presley's Blue Moon Boys and Johnny Cash's Tennessee Two. Every Joe Wrigley & The Jumping Jacks performance is a wild party celebration of original roots rockabilly music.
