It's the 18th International Music Festival and Anton is pulling out his flute once more with a three concert performance with his chamber ensemble at Raffles on the 25th, 26th & 27th of November. I see Issei Sakano is back in Phnom Penh (was in Myanmar for a bit) and is tinkling the ivories.
It looks a damn good line-up of music.
Thursday is just quality music with Clara Schumann's Romances, Op.94 the one to look out for. She was in something of love triangle at the time being married to Robert and having Brahms, Robert Schumann's best friend, in love with her. So there is quite some emotion in the piece.
Friday is the one to bring kids if you intend to do so. The programme includes Saint-Saëns Carnival of the Animals is a piece he wrote for his friends to all play together while they were drinking. Needless to say it is fun and wasn't intended to be published.
Friday is one for the connoisseurs with a number of pieces that are less often composed live. I must confess I have never heard Mél Bonis nor Jaque Ibert's music (though I may have heard and not realised who the composer is - only one way to find out!).
The full programme is here: https://musicfestival-phnompenh.org/index.htm
Tickets are only USD10 for adults and USD3 for kids/students so a real bargain. At the door only so get there early.
