Glad to see an Asian relationship built on trust.Seized assets totaled around 100 million baht including three bank accounts in the name of of Mrs Mingkwan totaling 19.5m baht plus several houses, eight land title deeds, three vehicles, a contract to buy a commercial building in Samut Prakan and seven other saving accounts.
So the tax authorities in NL asked the Thai's to prosecute him.

If they got "only" 100M bath, that still leaves 17M € unaccounted for.
Enough to buy his way out sooner than later I'd think.

Dutch media reports that the Dutch state misled the Thai court by witholding the information that the profits he made were semi-legal , regarding the Dutch soft drug tolerance policy...

Disclaimer:Reading Khminglish can cause a persistent and seriously disturbed perception of reality...
At his sentencing Tuesday, Mr Laarhoven filed a hand-written letter complaining of "atrocious" conditions he is subject to in the Thai prison system. He wrote that he shared his cell with "fifty murderers...
He wrote that he shared his cell with "fifty murderers and rapists" and late last year he saw someone beaten to death in front of him. The corpse allegedly lay there for days.

Spending your last 20 years in there might test your mental strength a tad. He gets out when he's 75. Case sounds harsh. Surely must be more to it. They all claim innocence.

am I the only one confused to as why a Dutch msn needs to launder weed money made in Holland? as far as I know, it's technically "illegal" but accepted for many a decade. so maybe he had to launder? he had to have a hell of a chain of pot/coffee shops running there.. but, what do all the other pot shop owners do? Did he need to launder that Euro?

My ex used to own a coffee shop/rest in Amsterdam. It is pretty complicated. First all coffee shops are (should be) licensed. Then you are supposed to get your weed from the govt. You are only allowed to have a certain amount at any time. If you have more, in can be confiscated and you can be fined. The tourist areas are one thing. If he owned different coffee shops in rural or other areas, they buy their hash and pot from other people and sell it to the whole community. To not declare those sales you would have to launder the money. It can be a lot, as I can tell you on a weekend we took in quite a bit of money and also made money on the side without disclosing it.
Maybe a dutch person can say more.
