Would you go to Pattaya?
Was offered a job in Pattaya, I have been only once for a month and did not take the job. I did not like the other expats much, felt like they were all shady. Not like the trustworthy Phnom Penh expats.
Also, in Thailand (and more in Pattaya) I did get on the piss with a number of Aussies. Some were a bit older and unnaturally jacked, I assumed roids. Saw in Bangkok as well and actually met an Aussie selling roids. Didn't know roids was big with the Aussies before that trip.

I would recommend searching: Pattaya/hotels. You can walk the lot in an hour or taxi it for cheap. Jomtien is sleepy but cheap, the darkside is a building site at the moment, but anywhere on Soi Buakao is a decent place to start. Good, clean, central hotel for about $30 a night is the R-Con Siam.Machiavelli wrote:Thanks everyone for the advice so far; for the uninitiated, its a lot to take in and I will need to work through it.
If I booked on Booking.com what area should I search and what is an average price for something ok decent?
Thanks.
I and seven friends will be there from Sunday night. We'll look after you.

On the one hand, that sounds rather comforting.Pu Li wrote:I would recommend searching: Pattaya/hotels. You can walk the lot in an hour or taxi it for cheap. I'm reassured by the fact that LL, Ricecakes and GMJS 440 think Pattaya is shit. LL - Charles Sobraj are you serious ? That's like saying don't go to London because Jack the Ripper lived there.

Vegas as described in the "Hangover" movies is a quite decent and civilized places. Pattaya is more like as if Fassbinder wanted to make a follow up on Berlin Alexanderplatz,Lucky Lucan wrote:Yeah, bad guys like Charles Sobhraj go to Pattaya.Jep wrote:Good Guys go to Heaven

I've never been there. I'm sure it has some great stuff going on but it sounds kind of crass, like Vegas or something.
and follow the protagonist as recovers from insanity. Honestly, Pattaya has calmed down incredibly since the 90's but You can still find source material for a movie there.
Ricecakes - failed attempts at aviation from balconies, these are either desperate people with mental issues or they got assisted as a result of failed payments to certain people.
This will not affect normal tourists, though.
My recommendation is to only use alcohol for intoxication and go home by 2am. And stay in populated areas. the number of people who fail to return from vacation is very low and usually due
to heart issues during vigorous exercise or from driving a motorcycle. I wish TS best of luck in P and hope that P can serve as a hyperspace loophole into another world.

I think Dahon is recommending not to use other substances for intoxication. Only guessing though, 'cos I'm not very bright.Machiavelli wrote:What else can you use it for? Curious.Dahon wrote: My recommendation is to only use alcohol for intoxication...

yes, yes, I see. As in, don't get stoned or pop pills or use any drugs. No problems here. I don't even get tipsy usually, mostly because I am afraid when alone not to have razor sharp judgement in these kinds of places. Im not like PU Li: I don't even have 7 friends to my name, so I don't have anyone watching my back. lol.kinard wrote:I think Dahon is recommending not to use other substances for intoxication. It's likeliest the stupidest idea I ever had; to go to Pattaya to get my head together before starting my Graduate degree.Dahon wrote:Vegas as described in the "Hangover" movies is a quite decent and civilized places. I'd go for sure. Maybe it's like PP in that after you've been you wonder what the hell you were thinking. But you still want to go...
I remember a quote by Richard Hall in his book Greed - The Mr Asia Connection where he succinctly described Pattaya as " A dreary seaside resort known for the production of second rate porn movies". Still holds true to this day I reckon.
