Border crossing between Vietnam and Laos....
Good luck on the Nullarbor. The prevailing wind could be a killer and it is hundreds of kilometres between roadhouses. If I were you I would cycle up the east coast from Sydney to Cairns.

You planning on cycling NZ, Horace? One of the best things i ever did that, in a slightly masochistic kind of way. Tropical meets alpine.horace wrote:Yeap, but after two weeks of cycling north from HCMC, inc up Bao Loc and Dalat, into 20kph winds one was knackered and when the winds became 30-45 kph it became impossible.
Pussy! Probably the only pussy around that has cycled 25,000 k around Indochina in the last 22 months , and certainly the only pussy you know who is about to cycle round the world inc going from Perth to Sydney and across the Nullabor Plain, pussy indeed.
Bought an old copy of LP Cycling NZ in an Auckland book shop and did most of the routes in that and some detours. Coromandel was shocking for the wind and rain in my face. I questioned my sanity cycling there. It got so bad that i had to escape into this large hut in the middle of nowhere and inside they were giving this talk on birdlife/conservation to an audience. I awkwardly sat down on the rows of chairs whilst people turned at me as if to say who the fuck is he. I felt like Mr Bean. Very hospitable though and they just handed me some papers on the birds!

Thinking about it and want to but it depends on how much Australia costs me, also it ain't so easy nor cheap to fly to Chile from NZ as one has to either go back to Oz or fly to Argentina, you would have thought flights from NZ to Chile would be a common thing , but no.
k440, something to do when you're pissed.

40-60kph headwind when going south from Santiago, and that's in summer. Contemplated taking a bike to the Patagonia region on the Chile side at one point, so did some basic research. Would be a great trip.bigphatt wrote:if you think the head winds in Vietnam are bad, wait till you tackle South America.
