the Tatmadaw will NEVER Unite Burma
heres why
also why things will only go straight to hell if there is a civil war
to many warring armies still fighting for independence
Each color on the map is a separate indigenous army.
Each is bound by its own web of allies and rivals, its own history and language. Its own means of acquiring money/weapons/ammo. Many w/ semi-discreet links to China, Thailand, the US or India.

Note the subtly of this event: the Myanmar military attaché in London called the British bobbies to make sure the actual ambassador of Myanmar could not enter the embassy...

Great article.... (you can see one or two articles in front of the WSJ paywall, I think... as I am not a subscriber...)
...poor Myanmar. If nothing else, this proves the obsolescence and ugliness of militarism... How can so few people sit on so many like that?

(I remember Gandhi (the movie version at least) stressing how all tyrannies eventually fall. Well, I thought, given enough time, I'm pretty sure that is true. But I couldn't hold back my next thought, that given enough time, new tyrannies would just as surely arise.)
To your point, Orichá, there was an article I read fairly recently (NYTimes ?) detailing what a tight isolated group the Myanmar Junta soldiers are. Most believe they are the ultimate protectors of true Burma against a vocal few civilian upstarts. Best hope might be for them to lay down their arms and join the people, but that doesn't seem likely short term. The International Crisis Groups analysis sounds valid to me. It is very, very near to becoming a failed state.

Here is a BBC story that shows some of the innocent victims, some who died in their own homes...
And as the above poster suggests, I guess that the military believe they are protectors, but if you study the mechanism of the military machine, I think a lot of their loyalty is fueled by cash dividends, and the carrot-and-stick idea that one may rise in the ranks and become really rich... The higher ranks probably have easy access to land deals and use high-handed methods to get whatever they want...

Urgent action needed to protect rights in Myanmar amid ‘spiral of violence,’
https://www.rfa.org/english/news/myanma ... 01841.htmlMore than a year after a coup, Myanmar is “caught in a downward spiral of violence,” the U.N. Human Rights Office said in a report Tuesday, calling for urgent action to protect the freedom and livelihoods of those living under military rule in the Southeast Asian nation.
In her first report to the U.N. Human Rights Council (HRC) since the military seized power on Feb. 1, 2021, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said that junta rule in Myanmar has led to “a significant regression in the enjoyment of human rights encompassing the full gamut of civil, political, economic and social rights.”
