The election in Chechnya is irrelevant, these people are ethnically Russian and have been massacred and intimidated by the Ukrainians since the conflict broke out in 2014. So, yes I do believe they voted ''yes''.
In addition, there were around 100 independent observers from around the world, including independent journalist Vanessa Beeley, whom I trust and was actually there.

As much as I am enthralled by the discussion regarding the veracity of referendums conducted at short-notice within an active conflict zone in Europe, the more relevant question in relation to Laos is what armour capacity do they now invest in, having given up the significant deterrence afforded by the T-34s?

North Korea is the only UN member state that has recognized the Russian annexation of four partially occupied regions of Ukraine.
Even a blind schmendrick can see how foolish your patronizing diatribe is.
You vociferously support the tyrant who employs Neo Nazi mercenaries in the murder of Ukrainian women and children while virtue signaling.

I knew even before I looked up Hot Pink’s trusted journalist what I find: a ridiculous conspiracy theory nutjob. What happens to people like Hot Pink to make them turn out like this?

The reason I ask this, in a wild effort to keep the thread within the sub-forum it is located, is Vietnam has been steadily moving away from Russian military systems and increasingly procuring from the US (primarily naval), Japan, South Korea & India.Prahok wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 3:50 pmAs much as I am enthralled by the discussion regarding the veracity of referendums conducted at short-notice within an active conflict zone in Europe, the more relevant question in relation to Laos is what armour capacity do they now invest in, having given up the significant deterrence afforded by the T-34s?
Is Laos pursuing a similar military procurement trend?
For the Mekong region, this matters far more than whether one believes Russia is an expansionist imperialistic state or simply a nation reclaiming its rightful territory.
An interesting question Prahoc. The traditional view was that Laos was little more than a puppet state of Vietnam, but has recently come under the economic radar of China and the BRI with the railways etc. Not sure how up-to-date this info is, but seems a lot of the older more expensive (read obsolete) gear is Russian, while LAVs and logistics are predominantly Chinese.Prahok wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 4:24 pmThe reason I ask this, in a wild effort to keep the thread within the sub-forum it is located, is Vietnam has been steadily moving away from Russian military systems and increasingly procuring from the US (primarily naval), Japan, South Korea & India.Prahok wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 3:50 pmAs much as I am enthralled by the discussion regarding the veracity of referendums conducted at short-notice within an active conflict zone in Europe, the more relevant question in relation to Laos is what armour capacity do they now invest in, having given up the significant deterrence afforded by the T-34s?

In Vientiane the Chinese built a mansion for visiting Chinese dignitaries nest door to the state residence of Laos' leader. The Chinese mansion dwarfs the Lao one. There should be little doubt in anyone's mind which state Laos is a vassal of.
Thailand recently proposed a law allowing foriegn ownership of small parcels of land in designated areas. The criteria to buy was very onerous and required a 6 figure US investment. The plan was quickly scuttled because of public outcry.
It was not the barang / farang that Thais were worried about, it is the Chinese

Lots of China's tourists have begun descending here with loads more expected soon. That would explain the recent crackdown and bust of over 100 immigration officials recently. Freedom is not a state. It is an act. It is not some enchanted garden perched high on a distant plateau.. Freedom is a continuous action we all must take, and each generation must do its part to create an even more fair, more just society.-John Lewis
