Russia Takes Back WWII Era Laotian Tanks
Russia's ministry of defense has acquired thirty old T-34 tanks sparking speculation the Soviet medium tank that was introduced in 1940 could soon be reintroduced to the battlefields of Ukraine. Putin's military has been faced with the challenge of fielding tanks able to compete with the modern armour soon to be supplied to Ukraine such as the US Abrams and the British Challenger 2.
A Russian state broadcaster reported: "Until recently all of this unique equipment was used to arm the National Democratic Republic of Laos.
"All of these tanks were passed on to the Ministry of Defence of Russia as part of the science and technology cooperation."
The tanks were reportedly gifted to Laos in the 1980s by Vietnam.
The reporter continued: "At least half these tanks were made in 1944 - during WWII."
"Despite the old age of these legendary T-34s [they] still work. The guns here are also in working condition."

The Kremlin is pursuing several narratives around its invasion of Ukraine, one of which draws upon the emotions of the 'Great Patriotic War'. The T-34s no doubt would play a role in strengthening that narrative with parades and re-enactments within Russia, perhaps a movie or two thrown in for good measure.
It was reported by the Russian State Media, so yes.
You remind me of this new trend in right wing circles of refusing to believe anything that doesn’t fit their narrative. Yesterday on Fox News a commentator was talking about the Paul Pelosi attack case: he repeatedly asked where is the evidence that it was a forced break in while on the split screen - as he spoke - the footage of DePape breaking in was being shown on a loop.
Nice. Who is this Paul person you speak of? The American inside trader who is married to some kind of ancient senator? He killed his own brother in a traffic accident if I recall correctly. Anyway, what has he got to do with T-34 from Laos. The tanks were indeed bought by Russia. Although some time ago. For the purpose of parades and museums and such. If anybody believe Russia is buying Laotian WW-II era T-34s to send to the front, his brain has been rattled to silliness by propaganda.Guest wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 2:38 pmIt was reported by the Russian State Media, so yes.

I would trust anything made in 1944 over sometime made in 2022.

Yes, I agree. Russia has the most tanks in the world. In fact, North Korea has almost as many as the US. The number of tanks being sent to Ukraine by NATO and allies will have little impact and likely end up as scrap metal.
It's also worth noting that the M1 Abrams that the US are sending, use depleted uranium rounds
Is that the same 30 tanks that Laos sent to Russia in 2019 because they didn’t want them anymore?

Russia receives 30 vintage T-34/85 tanks from Laos
by Dmitry Fediushko
Russia’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 9 January that the country received 30 vintage T-34/85 medium tanks from Laos that are to be used in military parades, museum exhibitions, and films about World War II.

And yet nearly a year after the invasion, the Russians are still making no progress and the myth of their military supremacy has been shattered, likely forever.
Bad news for you pro-Russian far-right nutjobs, but true nonetheless.
Does anyone else recall Putin saying this was going to be a 4-5 day operation?
I imagine Laos has shiny Chinese tanks now, but what they don't have is fuel. Perhaps the tanks are a token along with a few kip in exchange for some Russki fuel.
This footage is the source of the MSN article. It’s from 4 years ago.
