I'm still trying to figure that one out too... bet the nobel committee feels pretty silly now.metaleap wrote:Hahaha so Barack Obama is behind world monetary dynamics, the BIS should hire him interesting notion that he'd singlehandedly kill off most of expensive, debt-financed US shale just to save the world economy and prevent WW3. Is that why he got the Nobel Peace Price right after being elected?

Situation normal.
The AUD has touched 48.29c to the USD back in 2002-2003......
Was 64.50c around 2010......
I am expecting around the low 70c with a few dips to 66c for the next few years.

Waiting for a little gold bounce once Greece expires.....

old digger, old buddy, old cobber, do yourself a favour and brace yourself for another 10% loss (minimum) over the next few months.
might be a good time to make your way home for some R+R and where your dollar is worth a dollar.
good luck, Biker.
Thanks "bigphatt"
Yes I have thought of that but living here near the Thai border in Koh Kong it is cheaper for me to stay put.
Just shits me no end, that's all.
Fucken bewdy mate.

Just came across this 2011 talk: the first 20 minutes (anyone truly interested in the topic can afford those) give a seriously good overview of that "world monetary system" from, first, 1944-1971 and secondly, 1971-2015.metaleap wrote:That puts you about on equal footing with the "finance gurus"Biker wrote:As for a finance guru! I have never understood how the world monetary system worked and never will.
More specifically, the nutshell or "upshot" is exactly 10 minutes from 00:10:00 until 00:20:00! Surprisingly neat timing in there.
Now the bombshell punchline? As of last week, this wise-sounding, smart & eloquent economics professor guy doing the talking there is now Greece's finance minister
Note, how he depicts the Euro after 00:20:00 (and ignores the vital importance of dirty vs. cleanly floating exchange-rate regimes and central banks' reserves/balance sheet architectures specifically Fed vs. ECB) is quite flawed (or lacking) in a few key respects but that's "no real problem" in the grand scheme of things, as far as his role & job goes it's still a stunning & insightful round-up, comprehensible for most, packed into a mere 20 minutes, so a from me.

Sorry to say that I am quietly pleased to see the Aussie dollar nosediving. I'm earning in USD and IDR at the moment and planning to move back to Oz in July, so if it keeps heading southwards that will suit me fine...

Wonder when the AUD will recover, down to 0.66 to 1 USD now.
I have some Bear investment that todays plummet certainly helped. I do have a small Hedged AUD holding (HAUD).

the philippines has the banana sector covered downunder
the rba is printing like mad as are most other developed countries
the australian peso still has a ways to fall. i see it testing the mid us.50c by year end. have to keep the downunder exports competitive, right
downunder stock indexes down another 3% as of this post.
great buy in opportunity for yield investors if it goes down another 3% on top of todays bloodletting
