No have, but I'm so reckless I should probably have life insurance instead of health insurance.
Look at BUPA but there are plenty of other international companies. I saw no merit in local offerings when I looked at this market, maybe that has changed now but I doubt it.

PS if you can't afford normal insurance you might at least consider a worst case insurance for example with an excess of 10k or so. At least you won't bankrupt yourself or you family in the highly unlikely event that you are horribly seriously hurt and don't die.

That's because insurance companies usually refuse people with preexisting "cambod" condition.cambod wrote:No have, but I'm so reckless I should probably have life insurance instead of health insurance.
I recommend Forte, Infinity, or World Nomads.
We use World Nomads, prices were very reasonable for what they cover.

Aren't they a travel insurance company though, rather than a health insurance company?rebo wrote:We use World Nomads, prices were very reasonable for what they cover.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

I'm onto this with my next paycheque, so please make VERY useful contributions!
I came, I argued, I'm out
They are travel insurance company and included in that is medical coverage, obviously not the same as health insurance at home but we found this to be very reasonable with low excess, $100, and high maximum coverage for medical needs.Lucky Lucan wrote:Aren't they a travel insurance company though, rather than a health insurance company?rebo wrote:We use World Nomads, prices were very reasonable for what they cover.
World Nomads is underwritten by BUPA International. You would need to check the small print as what you need living long term in Cambodia is more an ex-pat insurance than a travel policy. You are also probably paying extra for non medical cover that you are unlikely to be ever able to claim. It maybe fine though as you declare to them that you live here.
To me the three main insurances players globally are BUPA, Aon & Allianz. There must be some more big American companies also but I don't know them.

Remember, the higher you set the excess the cheaper it becomes. A massive excess policy won't be much use if you sprain your arm or break your leg but if you need a 50k evacuation and a month being patched up at Bumrungrad it will massively limit your exposure. Peace of mind for the poor man in a way.

I am with Nordic - you can tailor the package the way you want. They were all-in-all the best for my specific needs. (based on the same package, BUPA were more expensive and full of crap). Hospitals here will not work on credit, but I had to use a hospital once or twice and Nordic paid back within a week. For big money cases they (Nordic) will send a letter to the hospital which guarantees payment. (which Ratanak said they do accept - I don't want to test the system, but need to take Ratanak's word for it). You can negotiate a zero excess with Nordic, but obviously they build it into the overall cost.
Carlros - I do not have the contact details on hand but will get to it within the next 30 minutes.

Not correct. BUPA have contract agreements with both International SOS and Naga Clinic who are presumably both capable of keeping you alive until you can get to a proper hospital. No cash needed. They will also approve you to attend Ratanak if you give them a quick call. Not sure I'd like the idea of being paid back if the bills were going to be huge or it was going to be difficult getting hold of the funds to pay out in the interim.Biltong wrote:Hospitals here will not work on credit
