Problem with Wing
Pleasure guys - just glad to get honest feedback to help improve the business. If I ask the locals they'll all just nod and say the 7-day thing is fine, why change it!
Still got to fix it (and KiRs money back) though - might not be until Thursday next week sorry KiR as the TTP branch is closed Mon-Wed. But if you're planning to pop in tomorrow let me know so I can make sure the branch staff sort your money back properly without needing to repeat the whole story to somebody new.

Last Saturday lunchtime (around midday) I organized two wing payments for K44o writers out of PP. One was collected the next day with no problems but the other person didn't get around to collecting until this afternoon and was told that Wing payments are automatically cut off after a week and as this was 7 days and one hour precisely since the payment was organized, she couldn't have the money.
Wing then phoned me to say that they'd not paid out and I'd have to go into the office with my receipt to reorganize the payment and so we have another problem as I can't find the receipt. Obviously, if I'd been told in the first place about this 7 days cut off I'd have firstly kept the receipt safely to hand and secondly told the writer to get her dosh earlier.
All round, this is a bit shit as when they phoned me I confirmed the amount and the fact that yes, the person collecting was in SR and yes, that is her correct telephone number and yes, this is my correct telephone number and they still wouldn't give her the money.
What is their policy if the recipient doesn't collect in 7 days and the sender has no receipt? Do they keep the money?
I can understand why they might be reluctant to allow money to be handed back over to the sender without a receipt, even if the sender proves his identity. It would create the possibility if staff members had access to information about which payments were never claimed, then after three or six months when it became clear that no one is coming back for the money, the staff member could just process a refund and take the money for himself and claim "Oh that sender came in and showed me his ID and I gave him back the money."
There should be a way to overcome this though, it's not Wing's money and they shouldn't get to keep it just because someone doesn't have a receipt.

You can see how easy it is to sort out problems when businesses and customers can talk to each other on K440. Now perhaps the top man at ANZ Royal and Acleda could become members on K440.

Great conflict resolution. Spitzy recognises the importance of customer relations, especially in a forum such as K440 where bad publicity could be extremely damaging to his business.scobienz wrote:Very classy replies from Spigzby. Maybe at that stage they can only collect it from an actual Wing location with their ID, and that gets filed away with a copy of their ID, minus a surcharge of some sort for the company's trouble... Something like that, I don't know.gavinmac wrote: There should be a way to overcome this though, it's not Wing's money and they shouldn't get to keep it just because someone doesn't have a receipt.

or, since the phone # is on record with the transaction, as soon as it expires have it reissues a NEW transaction with a new code and send it to the originators # so they can go collect what was never picked up. sort of sticks with the whole phone to phone concept and since they have to have the phone to get the code, they must be the one who collected on it.

Since reading the Wing threads on here, looking at the Wing website and asking a few questions and confirming my understanding with Spigzy, ( appreciate the personal communication ), as a say 3 month visitor Wing sounds ideal. Convert Thai baht to dollars in Thailand, ( better rate ), open the account on arrival and pay the cash in, thus avoiding room/hotel safes or personal carry. Wide cash withdrawal network now that I'm aware and looking, minimal transaction costs compared to visa/master cards and cash back on things like Cellcard XG which I use. Perish the thought I leave with any money but if I do cash out on departure.

Then you have bigger issues to worry about than a wing transaction.BillyB wrote:What happens if you both lose your phones?

Actually, if you've gotten your sim through proper channels then all stuff stored on it is available on the replacement when you go get it replaced from the dealer.

Are there any policies/rules that you acknowledge by using Wing? Is this 7 day limit stated?
Of the $1.5 billion transferred last year through wing how many million dollars do you think came from k440 members? What Your Name? wrote:especially in a forum such as K440 where bad publicity could be extremely damaging to his business.

No idea, but it's nice to experience a bit of personal customer service again.

precisely. pretty sure their target audience is payroll and constant accounts more than the 1-off no account transfers.Seller wrote:Of the $1.5 billion transferred last year through wing how many million dollars do you think came from k440 members? What Your Name? wrote:especially in a forum such as K440 where bad publicity could be extremely damaging to his business.

Usually the sender is able to provide enough detail about the original transaction to remove any doubt that they were the sender and thus the Wing Cash Xpress or head office are able to refund the sender without issues. I'm not aware of any cases where there has been any difficulty refunding a sender as it is quite rare for people not to cash out on the same day, usually within minutes. It is very unusual for anyone to get close to the 7-day limit. The policy if the money is not withdrawn by the receiver and no refund sought by the sender is for Wing to hold on to the funds for 10 years, after which time it becomes property of the National Bank of Cambodia; this matches bank policies in the country where unclaimed dormant accounts are also treated likewise. If the sender comes forward within 10 years then they can still be refunded. At no stage does any money become Wing's.gavinmac wrote:What is their policy if the recipient doesn't collect in 7 days and the sender has no receipt? Do they keep the money?
The 7 day limit is printed on the receipt - but it is in Khmer, as that is 99.99% of our customer base.cambo wrote:Are there any policies/rules that you acknowledge by using Wing? Is this 7 day limit stated?
When using 'Wei Luy Xpress' the recipient must be able to demonstrate they are the holder of the phone number and passcode used in the transaction; if they lose their phone they simply need to go to their Telco, report the loss and get their SIM re-issued, presumably to fit their new phone. Some of the Telcos are actually very good at also giving pre-paid customers their list of recent calls/SMSs so they can rebuild their contacts.BillyB wrote:What happens if you both lose your phones?
For Wing customers, losing the phone or the SIM doesn't matter - think of it like internet banking; if you lose your computer, you don't lose your bank account or its contents. Like a bank account, a customer can report any such loss and Wing will suspend the account until the customer has time to replace their device & change PIN, etc.
Better for the sender to open a Wing account and do the transaction themselves; if money is not collected after 7-days, the money rolls back into their account automatically, no need for any additional pass codes or withdrawals to get the money back.OrangeDragon wrote:or, since the phone # is on record with the transaction, as soon as it expires have it reissues a NEW transaction with a new code and send it to the originators # so they can go collect what was never picked up. sort of sticks with the whole phone to phone concept and since they have to have the phone to get the code, they must be the one who collected on it.
Final point on the matter is that I'd strongly encourage regular Wing users to open an account of their own rather than using 'Wei Luy Xpress' - it's a great product, but it is designed as a 'one-off' transfer. If you're using Wing a lot, you'll save money on transaction fees by doing them yourself and on Cellcard in particular at the moment you get the account and a whole bunch of bill payments for free.
