Visa vs Mastercard
I'm thinking of upgrading my ATM card to a debit card. Is there much of a difference in service and security between visa and mastercard? This is with ABA bank.

VISA (Visa International Service Association) and MasterCard are both payment processing institutions that are each owned jointly by thousands of participating financial institutions that issue and market VISA and MasterCard products (mainly credit and debit cards).
Both companies have similar products. Other financial institutions (mostly banks) issue cards that use either VISA or MasterCard for processing payments. So if you are comparing VISA and MasterCard to decide which card to go for, it may be a good idea to look at the features of the specific card (not the brand). The most important features, of course, are Interest rate and Annual fees.

I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
It's a debit card, so there will be no interest charges with either. There are no annual fees either, or if there are they are something that ABA levy themselves. I have a Mastercard debit card with ABA and I seem to recall their was a minor issue fee of $5 or something which is waived if you have a savings account. I also have a Visa credit card with ABA.
No problems or issues with either.

There might be very few places that only accept one or the other but not both.

Good point, my bad for not reading what I cut and paste.scobienz wrote:It's a debit card, so there will be no interest charges with either.
$8 annual maintenance fee.scobienz wrote:There are no annual fees either, or if there are they are something that ABA levy themselves.
All the details are on their website, doesn't appear to be much difference between the two.

I have used my ABA Visa Debit card for purchases and cash withdrawls in Cambodia, Thailand, UAE, Qatar, NZ and Australia, and for online payments, with absolutely no problems whatsoever. Big thumbs up to ABA, best bank in Cambodia imho, especially for their internet banking.

Thanks for the info. I was in branch today asking about it. They charge $8 per year but I'll look into opening a savings account if the perks are worth it. I was happy to see the cards have chip & pin, which is more secure than the magnetic strip.

any update on this? I am curious because our bank is asking if we want Visa or MasterCards with out new account. So far I have been using visa. Are atm fees the same for both cards or do they vary?
