Table of bank and MFI deposit rates?
Residency check method depends on banks and MFIs, and required documents in general tend to be one or two of work permit, employment contract or certification, residential lease agreement, and visa or stay permit validity.

Prasac won't open an account if you don't have a job with an employment contract. I did the usual try another branch. Same thing. Called head office and asked them and they confirmed the requirement.
Sathapana seem to be tightening up too since converting from MFI to proper bank.
On the plus side more of the MFIs are joining the world of real banking with electronic transfers to other institutions, and Internet banking.
Sathapana's ebanking offering looks like something from Windows 3.1 but it's a start.

Heh heh, "I do not know who or who does not ask for it as it varies by bank employee, bank branch and wether it's raining outside."
That's the feeling I get at a lot of financial institutions. The experience at Prasac had me wondering that they were just short of indignant that a mere tourist
would expect to take advantage of Khmer culture by attempting to participate in such a venture.
I thought afterwards that since they didn't ask to see a one year visa, an ambitious conniver would try to just buy a lease to show the bank.
The up side to all this is that I guess I should be happy I got into CMK when I did without any trouble. It's a small pleasure to wander in to their
small office on 110th street and pick up a few hundred dollars every year to add to my vacation walking around money.
Thanks to YaTingPom, and all, for the information.

That must be very recent because I set up an account there last year. I don't work.walkjivefly wrote:Prasac won't open an account if you don't have a job with an employment contract. A friend also set up an account this week at AMK. He doesn't work.
I can't see they would bring it that rule because they rely on deposits from expats.
I mean what teacher makes enough cash to be able to make deposits!
pew, pew, pew, pew!

I tried to open an account at Prasac in May 2016. Didn't have any problems at AMK, Kredit, Sathapana or VisionFund. If I'd tried a few more Prasac branches I might have got lucky but fuck 'em, who needs that aggro?YaTingPom wrote:That must be very recent because I set up an account there last year. I see from my old friend Google map there is an AMK office just down the street from 'my' CMK office.
I'll be in good spirits after getting my yearly stipend from CMK and wii go into AMK to try to open an account as a tourist, just for sport.

My walk-in experience in Phnom Penh in late 2015 without work permit or employment contract then.
Opened; AMK, Amret, HKL, Sathapana
Declined; Kredit, Prasak, VisionFund

Well all right Ooo', I have to ask, what did they ask you for at AMK, Amret, HKL, Sathapana, to open an account?
At CMK they asked for my passport, my picture and my signature.

Well, took my passport, pic, local address (self declared), my local mobile number and my signature.SHiVer wrote:Well all right Ooo', I have to ask, what did they ask you for at AMK, Amret, HKL, Sathapana, to open an account?

I'll be getting a local phone mobile number upon arrival at the airport. The crux of the matter is in "local address (self declared)".
Can you please detail what transpired in various incarnations.
Let me say I certainly appreciate the information, thank you.

They'll want to see a copy of your ordinary visa (6 months min) to grant the residents tax rate.
I won't say "I'm more than happy to pay the non-resident withholding tax."
I will however say I'm more than willing to pay the non-resident withholding tax.
This is the dilemma - Prasac wouldn't give me access to a term deposit as a non-resident.

As for local address, I used my serviced apartment's one where I stayed.
And, yes, another documentary requirement in general was visa, which in my case was business visa. Most nationalities, I guess, are able to obtain a business visa upon arrival at the PNH airport.
