I have no idea who you bank with, but Prasac (for example) pays more on THB term deposits than USD. For example, their 12 month term deposit pays 9.75% for KHR, 8% for USD and 8.5% for THB.The third man wrote:Detroit is right. Worth mentioning it when it happens.
Last time I was in Canadia their fixed Baht rate is lower than KHR but higher than USD.
Has it now changed?

I don't think so. Like i said I have only looked at Prasac but I'm sure you're right about Canadia and I'm sure it's still the case. It makes no sense that banks and MFI would offer more for USD than THB.
I'd be interested to hear what banks TTM and DM are referring too.
On a side note and slightly OT, but ABA is now 80 percent owned by the Canadian bank that invested in it two years ago, meaning the Kazakhstan bank that largely formed it here is now a minority investor. To me that boosts my confidence (already high) in it even higher.

Interesting. Is this a common trend among most MFIs here. I was actually recommended Prasac by another K440 member a few months ago.alanclarke72 wrote:I have no idea who you bank with, but Prasac (for example) pays more on THB term deposits than USD. I could be wrong and the bank I was using as reference to my earlier statement is indeed, Canadia Bank.YaTingPom wrote:Last time I was in Canadia their fixed Baht rate is lower than KHR but higher than USD.

I thought it was highest - USD, Riel, Baht @ Canadia? I'll look inside next time I hit up the ATM there.
Like I said, I could be wrong. We will see.
Can someone a hit more into finances explain why Baht would be a higer rate than USDs in Cambodia? Most banks fixed terms like this?

Not all the MFIs offer THB term deposits DM but the ones I have seen tend to offer higher rates for THB than USD. I'm no financial whizz but I guess it's related to currency risk and the fact that most investors would ultimately change their baht to USD so want some kind of premium on the interest rate to hopefully outweigh the possibility of a fall in the value of the baht. Of course the baht could strenthen meaning you win win, with a higher interest rate and a increase in USD return as a result.DetroitMuscle wrote:Interesting. True.
Personally I did not change my money to riel in the hopes it would go up against the USD, or any currency for that matter, I just thought it would be more stable seeing as its critical for the balance of the stability in Cambodia.
The real value is immaterial. Its what the NBC wants it to be!

YTP and DetroitMuscle were right. Canadia Bank term deposit rates for Thai Baht accounts are lower than dollar and riel accounts.

I can't imagine they do much business at those rates.

Yes but didn't say that. (DM said THB is lower than both)Playboy wrote:That must be the first time ever that has been posted !!?!DetroitMuscle wrote:scobienz wrote:YTP and DetroitMuscle were right
I said the THB rate is higher than USD but lower than KHR.
That's true in Canadian SHV and all MFIs.
Not sure why that link says otherwise.
