Who offers the best rates on fixed deposits?
I've only looked at CIMB, is not very competitive, from what I saw, but they do not cave to US demands for data

In other words.
I can't be bothered researching this myself. In fact I've only looked at one bank.
Can someone else please research it for me?

There's an entire thread devoted to this. OP might chip in and post some update.

Pardon my engrish, thanks you.
I've been investing in the Micro Finance area for the last few years, all my deposits come up this month and I'm moving most of my cash out of Cambodia.
I don't know how safe it is to continue to invest here.
Just my 2 cents worth.

The staff at the different MF companies HKL, Prasac and Amret are a pain to deal with as I negotiate my rates. If I change companies sick of carrying large sums in cash.
Interest Rates are dropping.
Next years elections I feel will be more trouble than previous years.
I can get better returns off shore.

Obviously to people like you, you haven't got the means or knowledge.YaTingPom wrote:Where, Koh Rong!
Not believing. "Offshore" is good for many things but return isn't amongst them.Thrifty wrote:

a tad presumptuous, please elaborate.Thrifty wrote:Obviously to people like you, you haven't got the means or knowledge.YaTingPom wrote:Where, Koh Rong!
Having money "offshore" does not attract high interest rates (compared to Cambodia) and that is not why those vehicles are there. They are there to reduce tax and hide money through trusts and funds.
i actually know a lot about "offshore" being involved with Trusts in The Cook islands an Cayman. And I do actually have funds in MiFi here in Cambodia but have also spread my risk by purchasing land.
Thank you very much.

Yes, my earlier comment was presumptuous, in reply to a smart arse.
Some of the posters here think because they don't know about something it can't be true, I guess simply ignorance.
That shows with YPT's reply, I'm certainly not so arrogant to think I know everything.
Where is your land YPT, in Cambodia? Whilst I have a funds tied up in Property here I think it would one of my riskier investments.

Yes I (my wife) owns land in Cambodia.
I would like to know where you've parked your cash offshore and getting good returns.
The vast majority of "offshore" banks are actually owned and run by big well known high street banks, financial institutions, accountants and wealth management firms, apart from "local" banks, like Butterfields in Bermuda (which used to be majority owned by CIBC). It's not in their interest to offer high returns on cash deposits but I am open to be educated of course.
Unless you are taking about returns on investments carried out on behalf of those wealth management firms of course.
Offshore banking is not what it used to be with the the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) starting this year and 2018 so you cant have hidden cash stockpiles without someone (usually your home government) knowing about it!
Incidentally Cambodia is not a participant but Bermuda, Isle of man, Jersey, Switzerland and all the well know tax havens are.
